Gay marriage in Manipur

Manipur recently witnessed the first ever same sex marriage in the North East. The marriage of the gay couple of S Sandeep aged 26 and H Nikhil aged 24 is a mark of the realisation of the aspirations of the gay community in the state . After an affair of six years, the duo tied the knot in front of a large number of supporters. With a firm decision to face discrimination and undesirable social outlook, for the first time in Manipur, the gay couple decided to come out of the closet and was married breaking the social stigma regarding gay relationship. However, the marriage ended in a whimper after just two days following stiff opposition from their families as gay marriage is still a taboo in society.
