To be or not to be

New initiative for peace in Assam

A new peace initiative but with the same rhetoric that the government should first come forward for peace talks with the militant outfits has been observed in Assam. The voices of the peace negotiators were however seemingly weak in urging the armed leaders to immediately shun the path of violence and targeting the common unarmed people of the state.

It looks as if the Indian government has to do everything from creating an atmosphere to avoiding putting up any preconditions and finally inviting the militants for peace talks. Contrary to that, the armed group leaders have to do very little for a sustained peace process.

As the Assamese people were preparing for the Bohag Bihu, the initiative by a group of distinguished personalities of Assam started drawing attention.
