Thang-Ta Festival in Manipur
Recently Manipur which is known as the sports powerhouse of the country witnessed the first ever three day festival of Thang-Ta and Indigenous Dance Festival in Imphal under the aegis of Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society locally known as KIMACS. Although Thang means sword Ta means spear literally, Thang-Ta collectively signifies the indigenous form of martial arts in the state.
Displaying the indigenous swords, spears, shields and other martial arts kits at five stalls at Iboyaima Shumang Leela premises located near the historic Royal Palace of Manipur, KIMACS organized the festival to popularize the dying indigenous Thang-Ta globally. A total of 250 players and dancers representing 17 Thang-Ta organizations and 10 other indigenous dance groups displayed their hidden techniques of martial arts and dance forms during the festival.
