Many Species: One Planet: One Future

The program was a sing-out competition where participants used the medium of music to highlight the essence of preservation and conservation of nature.

On days like June 5th we understand the meaning of the term ‘occasional respect’ wherein people in power go all out publicizing their capacity to honour the day yet the very next day they forget all of their promises. The students of the Department of Environmental Science & NEEDS staged a play called “Mr. Watson’s Nightmare” where the ‘occasional respect’ of politicians towards World Environment Day was portrayed. The play also, through dances, showed the destructive impact that human intervention has on the environment and ended with a message of encouragement to every citizen to change for good.

The eminent personalities who graced the occasion were the St. Edmund’s College Principal Bro. E V Miranda; Padmashree Awardee Ms. Patricia Mukhim; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Mr. T.T.C Marak and Gideon Kharkongor, Director of NEEDS besides students from various schools.

On the occasion, Seven Set School was felicitated by NEEDS with a ‘Zero Waste Award’ for being the most environment friendly school out of the 5 schools under a project. This award is being instituted so that other schools can also practice the concept of ‘zero-waste-school’ for the benefit of the students and the society at large.

NEEDS exhorts every citizen to do their part and use whatever constructive medium and talent to do something positive for the environment and the world at large, no matter how small; because no matter how indifferent a person is, they still belong to one planet and we all have to share the same future; the difference is we can shape how the future turns out for us.
