The Nagaland Chief Minister said that the correct spelling of name is the most important while filling up the details and urged the officials to take utmost care in this. He further said that accurate Census is very essential so that government will not find difficulties during the perspective plans of various departments. He felt that the time has come to discontinue manipulation of the Census adding that the Prime Minister of India has stated that corruption of people would be charged with the unique Identity Card. He further said, “If you cheat you will be a loser.”
The Census Director Hekali Zhimomi IAS said, “We should follow the example set by the Chief Minister.” Further she urged the public to assist and help the enumerators to bring correct Census, stating that it is a constitutional duty and urged upon the enumerators in all far flung areas to carry out their duties at the schedule time.
During the course of the Census, the enumerators visited every household for the collection of information with regard to “house listing & house Census” and also for the preparation of  “National Population Register (NPR)”.
Census Director, Nagaland, Hekali Zhimomi informed that the Census officials and enumerators are committed to ensure accurate and successful Census and that there would be no room for mistakes.
Meanwhile the Naga Hoho appealed to the people of Nagaland to take part in the Census exercise honestly. “Let no political or tribal interest sway us in obtaining a correct data of how many we are in this land,” appealed a press release issued by NH President Keviletuo Kiewhuo and General Secretary P Chuba Ozukum.
Asserting that the Census has been a much misunderstood exercise in Nagaland with the people equating it with the electoral roll listing or a data that is solely used by the Government of India, the NH said Nagaland can not afford to miss out on this crucial exercise and must assert our right in demanding that the Government utilizes the accurate database for planning. “However, we the Nagas have a crucial part to play in ensuring that we give the correct information as and when required to do so. It begins with honesty at the individual levels. Only then can we have a correct and complete Census in Nagaland. It is time for Nagas to count ourselves honestly and have a true and correct number of each tribe,” it added.
