Shillong’s Sirens

The Shillong Chamber Choir, India’s lone representative in the 6th edition of the World Choir Games recently returned home, bringing back with them three gold medals from the event. These medals were won in the Musica – Sacra (sacred music), Gospel (medley of a few songs) and Popular (medley of Bollywood and English numbers) categories.

The head of the Choir Mr. Neil Nongkynrih said that participants from over 82 countries vied in the event. All in all, there were 20,000 participants in about 400 choir groups. Mr. Nongkynrih who led the 15 member Shillong Choir group during the event that was held between 15th July and 16th July had last year led the group which at that time returned with a single silver medal.
