World Bamboo Day in Nagaland

To commemorate the World Bamboo Day on September 18, the Nagaland Government, under the aegis of the World Bamboo Organization (WBO) has proposed to host a three day event at Kisama Naga Heritage Village, Kohima, from September 16 to 18.

“Bamboo for livelihood and community development” has been selected as the theme of the event.

The programme is organized with the aim to spread the message of World Bamboo Day and to generate overall awareness on bamboo in the society and economy.

Over three hundred national and international delegates are expected to participate in the three day programme.

The celebration and festival would also be graced by members of WBO, high level policy makers from the Government of India and the Northeastern states, officials and ambassadors and high commissioners from the ASEAN countries.

The celebration would also encompass and showcase the achievements of National Bamboo Mission (NBM) in the country especially in the Northeastern part of the nation. Apart from the huge knowledge being exchanged among bamboo experts and the common people, the highlights of the World Bamboo Day celebration in Nagaland would include a cultural programme, crafts and painting competition, bamboo planting, symposium and workshops, green marathon, competitions among the students, bamboo sports, exhibition on bamboo craft and products, field visits and bamboo music and food festival.
