MLCU 3rd Convocation Ceremony
MLCU 3rd Convocation Ceremony
The Third Convocation Ceremony of Martin Luther Christian University was recently held at the Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong. His Excellency The Governor Of Meghalaya and Visitor of the University Mr. Ranjit S. Mooshahary was the President of the Convocation while the Honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr. Mukul M Sangma was the Chief Guest.
The Convocation Speaker Professor Dr. R.C Deka, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, in his Convocation Address congratulated the students in having earned their university degree. He also said that the students were lucky to have received a degree from a university which was named after a great man who in the 17th century was responsible for taking university education to the common man in Europe. His struggle to liberate humanity from self – made shackles was legendary. It may be mentioned here that the university was named after Martin Luther (1483 – 1546), a church reformer who is known as the Father of Protestantism. Though he left law studies to become a monk, his enlightened views on education are quoted to this day. “What do we older folks live for, if not for the care of the young, to teach and train them,” was an admonition to the councilmen of the land. He was especially concerned about “parents who do not have the opportunity or means to educate their children.”
On the day, a presentation of degrees and diplomas was made to the students from Martin Luther Christian University’s Shillong campus, Tura Campus, Nongtalang campus, Rymbai campus, Nongstoin campusSampurna Institute of Advanced Studies, LDM Christian College and the TRADA Institute of Social Sciences. All in all, three hundred and ninety four students were presented their degrees and diplomas at the event.
