Manipuri girls, champions in National Arm Wrestling

Arm wrestlers from Manipur returned back home with flying colours from the 19th National Arm wrestling Championship ’95 held at the Meghalaya capital Shillong from the 18th to the 20th August last. The Manipur team emerged as the overall champion in the girls category by bagging four gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals. Ambrabati, keiyani, Dhaneswori and Ranjana bagged the golds respectively in the 45 kg, 60 kg and 70 kg categories.

In 45 Kg, 50 Kg, 60 Kg and 70 Kg events, Manipur girls Bhabini, Devarani, Hemabati and Vitoriya won silver medals while Binodini and Inao Devi had to content with bronze in 55 and 80 K group.

Men’s team got third position in the championship. Manipur boys Shyam, Ksh. Kubu and Th,. Sarat Singh bagged one silver medal each in 75 K, 80 Kg and 85 Kg events while M. Amuba and Y. Bikeshor Singh earned a bronze medals each in the categories 50 and 55 Kg.

The first and second position holders in this championship are to participate in the International Championship slated for October – November this year in Brazil. However, as ill luck would have it, the arm wrestlers from Manipur are now not in a position to participate in the international .........
