MEMORIAL COMMITTEE IN SERVICE TO HUMANITY FOR LAST 11 YEARS
There are very few social organizations in Dhubri town which have been rendering services to poor and downtrodden people with devotion and dedication and Dr. Panna Lal Oswal Memorial Committee is one among the few which deserves kudos for the social activities that it continues to carry forward for the last 11 years.
Since inception, the Memorial Committee has been doing much work including organizing vision screening, diabetics and dental check ups, ayurvedic medicinal camps, maintaining Netai Dhobin Park, putting up an exhibition of medicinal plants, bringing out various folders, books and leaflets to promote tourism, awareness campaign on earthquake, drug abuse, AIDS etc and plantations in schools, public places and parks of Dhubri town.
On his 11th death anniversary, a glowing tribute was paid to Dr. Panna Lal Oswal recently which was followed by various programmes recently. At the onset of the programme, a glowing tribute was paid to Dr.Oswal by hundreds of people followed by a memorial meeting presided over by J.M. Surana, a senior member of the Memorial Committee.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Jatindra Lahakar recalled the contribution of Dr. Oswal and said that he would be remembered for his contribution to society.
“Oswal was a man of multifaceted talent who had left the imprints of his activities almost in all fields. The arena of his activities was vast but the initiatives he had taken some thirty years back remind everyone about his foresight of problems and the action he had taken for their remedy,” Lahakar added.
While paying a heartfelt tribute to Dr. Oswal, the Chairman of the Dhubri-Gauripur Development Authority, Parshuram Dubey said that it was in a tragic incident that he was killed but he still lives in the heart of millions for his contribution and the social work that he had rendered throughout his life.
“Man lives not by years but by his good deeds and though a bullet had cut short Oswal’s life, the bullet could not kill his deeds and ideology and this is where Dr. Oswal stands tall,” Dubey added.
“The Committee has organized many a programme during the last 11 years, the prominent among them being eye screening camps in schools, general health camps, camps on children health, steps for promoting tourism in the district, a seminar on medicinal plants and plantations in the school campuses in Dhubri,” Bimal Oswal added
Oswal also said that with their limited resources, the Committee has been maintaining the Netai Dhobin and Mahabeer Chilarai Parks for the last seven years.
Like in previous years, this year free garments and slippers were distributed to 53 students of ten different lower primary schools of Dhubri town. Besides this, a separate packet of gifts containing biscuits, playing material and education material were given away to the students.
After the conclusion of the memorial meeting, a free dental check up camp was held for the students which was conducted by Dr. Deboshree Choudhury and free tooth brushes and paste was given to each one of the students.
As a part of the programme, fruit bearing saplings were planted in the Shree Shree Jogomaya Temple complex and Queen Victoria Park.
