Zillai Social Meet 2010

The 29th “Zillai” (Vaiphei Students’ Association) Annual Conference cum Freshers’ Meet 2010 was held recently at U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong under the auspices of ZSB (Zillai Shillong Block). The annual Conference cum Freshers’ Meet was held primarily to felicitate the successful students for their achievements in their respective academic endeavours and to provide a platform for the burgeoning freshers who flock to the Meghalayan capital every year. At the same time this is an event when the Vaiphei community comes together for an annual gathering away from home.

The event witnessed a unique variety of traditional mosaic display and showcases of various ethnic traditional practices of the Vaiphei tribe since time immemorial.

The Event was graced by Shri Genneikhup Vaiphei, Executive member, ADC Ccpur, Manipur as Chief Guest, Shri S. Gentinlian, Assistant Director, SIB, as Guest of Honour and Dr. A. Pariong, MLA, Parliament Secretary, Transport and SAD, Govt. of Meghalaya as Special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, applauded the joint effort of the ZSB to organize such an event, nevertheless reminding the Zillai that they are at large the backbone of the society. He called upon them to shrug off all those indifferences which could hamper any development of the society in every aspect. Narcissism is the decrescendo of unity among the Vaiphei to march forward, said the speaker. He urged the students to come out of their comfort zone and venture out to achieve their aspired dreams. The time has come to manifest how a thousand hearts can beat as one, emphasized the speaker. He encouraged the Zillais to leave no stone unturned, in order to restore the ethic codes and mortify the present waffling, topsy-turvy system prevailing in the society.

The Guest of Honour, in his message said, “Zillai stands as a central cohesive source of support and stability in all associated organizations within the Vaiphei community.”

Dr. Pariong, Special Guest, expressed the need to shun social evils which particularly drain off the vitality and deteriote the potential and talent of the youth today.

On the occasion, a book entitled ‘Vaiphei Zillai’ published by the Vaiphei Research Forum containing a brief biography of dauntless leaders whose concerted efforts uplifted the Vaiphei society and whose immense sacrifice for the cause of unity, integrity and development, was released by the Special Guest.

The guest artiste Sony Baite, Joycee, Benjoy, Moite, Garry Zoubiaksang, and Elbenthang once again held the packed audience’s emotions woven in a spell with their exquisite and mesmerizing talent as they entertained the crowd with their special numbers.
