Flash Back December 1995

Conflict among the Bodos takes a serious turn

The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has started a new stir demanding early implementation of the Bodo accord. The surrendered militants of ABSU are now again returning to militancy. The cases against the ex ultras have not been withdrawn and widespread dissatisfaction has been spreading all over the BAC areas.

The violence took a new turn when the suspected BrSF ultras killed two activists of ABSU while raiding the ABSU office in Basugaon. Mr. Uttam Basumatary and Mr. Prafulla Goyary were shot dead on the 11th of September. The next day, another ABSU office at Sidli Kachikotra was set on fire that destroyed the documents and furniture in the office. The entire BAC area is facing a deep sense of insecurity.

In the meantime, a crisis arose inside the ABSU itself when the ABSU President Mr. Sambla Basumatary announced a stir against the non – implementation of the Bodo Accord and on the other hand, welcomed the deployment of additional security forces in the Bodo areas. The Darrang district ABSU raised their voices against the central committee’s decision and the division in ABSU is now clear.

The most dreaded rebel group Boro Security Force (BrSF) while reiterating to continue its struggle for an independent Boroland has stepped up operations in the entire region.

The once surrendered militants of ABSU meanwhile are now again organising themselves under the banner of the Bodo Liberation Tiger Force. (BLTF)
