Drunk Cops go Berserk, Kill Three
Since the day the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 was enforced in the three valley districts of Manipur, there have been controversial killings galore. In case of some youths, the Supreme Court had ordered the Union of India to give monetary compensation since it was assumed that the youths had met unnatural deaths.
There have been allegations about the killing of the overpowered and arrested youths. However, in all instances the police and the government could escape by merely saying that those insurgents had been shot dead in ‘encounters’. In some cases, such controversial killings were followed by assassinations of police personnel by insurgent outfits.
The latest instance of policemen of policemen going berserk is the massacring of three innocent persons at Tampha hotel in Imphal on the night of December 7. He reportedly invited them to his room for some drinks.
