4 Year Old Abandoned and Starved

After her mother died from AIDS, a 4 year old girl in Assam who was entrusted to the care of her paternal uncle and aunt was discovered by an NGO in a shed along with goats. It was found that she was living in a shed with goats and was made to eat from a bowl meant for the goats. When discovered at the uncle’s house 60 kms away from Guwahati in Lower Assam by the NGO, she weighed less than 8 kgs. She has been rescued by the NGO whose members had brought her to a community centre in Guwahati where people living with HIV are taken care of.

On hearing about the horrendous mistreatment of this HIV positive child, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has promised to set up a special shelter for others like her as such children can not be taken into regular orphanages due to their being HIV positive.
