Writer of Royal Descent passes on in Manipur

Manipur’s popular writer and descendent of the royal family, Maharaj Kumari Binodini passed away after a prolonged illness at her Yaiskul police lane residence in Imphal on January 17 night.

When she was the Secretary of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy in the 70’s and 80’s she went to Mexico, USA, Canada, Germany and France in 1976 leading a troupe of dancers from the Academy.

This multiple award winning literatus was born on February 6 in the year 1922 at Manipur’s royal Palace. Her greatest achievement is arguably winning the Padmashree Award.
