Ziona Chana is the head of the world’s biggest family which he has achieved through his 39 wives who bore him 94 children, some of whom are married to his now 14 daughter – in – laws, who in turn bore him 33 grandchildren. The best part of this story is that the family lives together in relative peace and harmony, working together to see to the mammoth task of running a family which outnumbers the residents of most hostels in the North East.
The family lives in a 100 room, four storey house in Baktwang village in Mizoram, the biggest concrete structure in the hilly village.
As can be expected, meals for the family are akin to small feasts where approximately 30 chickens, 60 kgs of potatoes and a 100 kgs of rice is needed per meal. The preparation of all this is supervised by Mr. Chana’s first wife Zatiangi who directs her fellow partners in other household chores such as washing, cleaning besides the preparation of meals.
It may be noted that Mr. Changa is the head of a sect which permits its followers to marry as many women as they wish. Mr. Chana; whose religious sect which is now 4,000 members strong has said that he is not done looking for wives. In fact, he now has his eyes on America for his latest bride.
