THE SOCIETY SPEAK

Friday Lyngdoh,MLA

‘The kettle is calling the pot black”

We are lucky to have such honest citizen like them (referring to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi). Self sacrificing leaders of the country and to say that to check them is like kettle calling the pot black.

Its not only the government the people are corrupt too not only in money but socially too. If you want to root out corruption then root it out right from the family to society. Lokpal Bill or any act will not stop corruption. If you cannot stop corruption till it is not removed from the heart.

If some are jealous of position and want to hamper the credibility of the person at the helm then he or she can start a smear campaign using these bodies to his or her benefit be it individual or any political party.

Shankar roy, Businessman

With the coming of the Jan Lokpal Bill it will be easier for us to business as we will not need to pay the extra tax.( bribe)  Income has dropped especially when there is increase in prices of day to day  items and tax is increasing. Its hard to do business. What Anna is doing will definetly help in running the business as the additional tax will not be required to be paid.

Kali Pranab Bhattacharjee, Advocate

Which draft do you support?

Obivously the people’s, because the moment, when it’s a question of government, a lot of political, vested interests will come in.  No one would want to put themselves in a difficult situation. So obviously  they would want to try a carve their way to escape. So I go by the civil right way.

Its high time the people respond. What is happening to the country? The corrupt people are eating up everything. Look at the wealth deposited in the secret accounts in the Swiss Banks! We need people who are more patriotic and have the honest intention to do good for the country. I am very much for this Bill and everyone should come under its ambit even the Prime Minister.

Sharukh Chandra rai, Labourer

Sharukh Chandra rai is a daily wage laborer , sole earner of his family of ten and when there is work earns `250 per day. Speaking to senior reporter he tells us that its hard running the family. “The government is required to do something for people us otherwise we poor people will die. I had heard about Anna Hazare but not much. I feel that he is doing something good,” he says.

Venu Das, taxi driver

I have been engaged in this profession for the last 45 years. My income has dropped from `250 a day to a meager `100. Petrol has become so expensive. what is the government doing? They have destroyed us with the increased taxes. I will only support Anna if it will be good for us.
