Appreciable venture
Dear sir,
Sounds amazing, but it’s true. I just couldn’t believe my eyes before a second look at the cover of Eastern Panorama. I was delighted to read Eastern Panorama, News Magazine of North East.
Indeed, this set of 52 pages taken together speak of the inharent talented qualities of the people of North East India. This venture of yours is really appreciable and my heartfelt cogratulations to you and all those who are directly or indirectly responsible for bringing out its valued issues.
Its contents are upto date and I am optimistic that with the passage of time its popularity will itself stand-out on its own.
Wish you all, all the best,
Yours truely,
Rajesh Kr. Jalan.
2008
Sir,
I have read your september 2008 issue of Eastern Panorama and have been stuck up with your motto explained in the Editorial column under the heading of ‘The Burning Question of Influx’. You quoted, ‘an estimate suggests that 30% of the total population in Assam is of Muslim origin, and a majority of them are Bangladeshis.’ I want to ask you how you proved that a majority of Assam’s Muslims are Bangaldeshis. You know, such a statement will become reference to the so - called young agitators of AASU, AJYCO etc who have no basic historical knowledge of Assam..... It is simply not the Bangladeshi issue, rather, I would say foreigner’s issue (as Nepalese and Bhutias are also living in Assam in masses) which needs to be solved as early as possible by involving reresentatives of all those communities with an open mind and find a permanent solution as per the Assam Accord.
Yours faithfully,

Well done mothers
Sir, .
Thank you so much for your valuable and commendable comment on stripping of clothes by Meitei women activists to protest against the atrocities of the Indian army on women in your August issue. In the cover story, it was reported that a high ranking army officer said that “such protests by naked women is a normal matter”. The officer who made such derogatory remarks may be an insane one. In Indian history, the protest carried out by twelve Meitei mothers in naked is the first of its kind as there is no other option to draw the attention of sleeping central government on the issue. Nobody can imagine how many nights and days the twelve mothers may be thinking to take such strong decision to save their hundreds and thousands of daughters in the years to come. All women and men should appreciate their sacrificial deed in the larger interest of women. It is unthinkable and unimaginable but their heroic and wonderful action will save many girls and young mothers’ lives and modesty in the years to come. Though you have sacrificed your modesty, your heroic deed will be recorded in the Women History. Well done mothers.
