Hidden beauty of Laitkor Rngi

We believed that many people like us, in and around the city, and tourists in particular, do not know about its existence. The idea behind this article is to highlight its existence to the people of the entire region and Shillong in particular and above all, to bring this remote area on the tourism map.

Fortunately, one fine morning, while we were busy in our work (research), at the ‘Fideriga Institute of Learning’-Laitkor Rngi, the unexpected meeting with the local headman, together with the members of the Laitkor Rngi Dorbar, suddenly brought to light this hidden treasure of Laitkor Rngi. We felt excited to explore its natural beauty, existence, origin etc. the moment we were informed by the head of the Dorbar Shnong Laitkor Rngi and its members, about its existence. As keen researcher in rebuilding the lost glory of Shillong city, in the said Institute of Learning-Laitkor Rngi, we feel it is our duty to attempt exploring or surveying, the location of the falls. Early morning of the 2nd October 12, many students and researcher under the institute surveyed and confirmed the existence of Snoh Lwai falls.

Students searching for approach roadWe express our gratefulness, to the Headman and the members of the Dorbar Shnong Laitkor Rngi, who unknowingly, convey the news of the existence of this beautiful waterfall, in their own jurisdiction, which hitherto remained hidden. To promote tourism industry in the state, and to attract local tourists etc., we appreciate the vision and efforts of the members of the Dorbar Shnong Laitkor Rngi, that in spite of bad weather, on the same day, the 2nd October, 2012 we witnessed the unity, concern, hard work, interest, etc. of all the people of the areas, under the able leadership of the Headman and the members of the Dorbar Laitkor Rngi, all the local people participated in the cleaning drive, and interestingly cleaning the slippery slope-path, leading to Snoh Lwai falls, was the main objective of the people of the areas. This in itself clearly shows, their interest to preserve and protect the rich heritage given to them by the mother-earth, which we believe is a special blessings not only to the people of Laitkor Rngi, but the state in general. The picture shows the spirit of the people of Laitkor Rngi, in the midst of dark clouds, heavy rainfall, followed by slippery slopes etc. in cleaning the path leading to the falls.
