GU Techfest’12

The series of lectures began with Col. Ranjit Kumar Talukdar’s discourse on ‘Employment and employability challenges for the growing number of educated youths with specific reference to the North East’. Col. Ranjit Kumar Talukdar is a recently retired Senior Defence Forces Officer from the Grenadiers Regiment of the Indian Army and is presently the Project Director of a Youth Training Oranisation functioning under the Employment Generation Mission of Assam.

Ranjit Kumar TalukdarHe highlighted the current employment scenario of the nation, especially of North-East India and pin-pointed the various reasons responsible for it and also testified the same with statistical data. He urged the audience comprising mainly of students from the technical background, on having a good grip in English, on adopting a high E.Q. coupled with I.Q. and to work towards changing the education system so that it casts a revolutionary spell on our nation. He concluded by advising them to be always sanguine in life besides developing a hardworking nature.

Col. R. K. Talukdar’s lecture was followed by a talk on ‘Harmony’ by Dr. K .K. Jhunjhunwala, the Editor-in-Chief of Eastern Panorama. He spoke on the importance of Harmony and Camaraderie, on its role in the growth of a nation and also on how a compassionate nature at an individual level can act as a building block of harmony in the society. “Harmony is tuning of our lives to those around us and the natural world that sustains our wellbeing. To live in harmony requires that we be conscious of the hopes and needs that surround us and be flexible in our own course of action. In a harmonious relationship each party at times sets aside his or her own desires to nurture the relationship itself. We can be in harmony with others only when we are in harmony with ourselves- living true to our deepest sense of what is real and what matters”- Dr. Jhunjhunwala said. Responding to a query by a student, he invoked the masses to project ethics and integrity above personal and corporeal benefits to tackle the rampant corruption in our country.

Harsh KhemkaThe post-lunch session began with the ‘Personality Development Programme’ by Harsh Khemka, the Director of IMS, Guwahati. His presentation on ‘Decoding Personal Interview’ gave the audience a brief but very constructive idea about Personal Interviews and also about the basic Dos and Don’ts while facing a Personal Interview. He kept the audience parked to their seats by virtue of his witty style and very shrewdly ornamented videos that aided to the better understanding of the gathering. He insisted on having knowledge of the basic etiquettes besides stressing on having a good grasp on English vocabulary and being prepared to handle the most stressful of situations during a Personal Interview.

India’s most loved Motivator and Enter-Trainer, Akash Gautam delivered the last lecture of the series and right from the moment he had occupied the podium till his workshop – ‘Bolly-cabulary’ ended, he enthralled the audience with his unique style of making learn vocabulary incorporating Bollywood. Using the latest movie songs, advertisements, etc, he successfully enter-trained the audience with over a 100 English vocabulary at the end of the two hour session. Throughout his workshop he kept on tipping the audience on how being happy is the key to become more successful in life. He charmed the audience with his rib-trickling jokes and the mirthful experience left the audience craving for more.

Dr. K. K. Jhunjhunwala The lecture series finally got stamped with ‘GRAND SUCCESS’ and vindicated the ideal curtain-raising to the GU Techfest’12.
The GU Techfest is officiated every year with a perspective to usher the flourish of Science and Technology and to make the 10,000 youths participating from over 50 institutions nation-wide, holistically developed. The carnival spans over 26 events comprising an array of competitions, engrossing workshops, myriad exhibitions, benevolent undertakings and entertaining cultural nights.

The Gauhati University, the host of the carnival, has pioneered the genesis of state-of-the-art amenities for regimental and rapt study of Science and Technology in the region, through the 3 year old, Institute of Science and Technology, which dispenses ten different courses under three programmes.
