The left front government in Tripura faced a tough challenge from the opposition ahead of assembly poll when Congress and BJP separately sought action from CBI in the involvement of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in chit fund company scams. While BJP demanded immediate arrest of Sarkar for abetting Rose Valley to CBI, Congress asked to initiate an investigation into his closeness with some non banking financial companies. Congress wants an enquiry of the involvement of Sarkar’s family in Ponzi firms. BJP has sent the letter to CBI headquarters seeking immediate action against Sarkar.

Strong Lokayukta Act is necessary- Joe Marwein

United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Joe Marwein has called out to the Meghalaya Government to strengthen the Lokayukta Act in order to fight against the menace of corruption in the state. 
While addressing during the gathering at Mawkhar, the UDP North Shillong youth wing lashed out at the Congress led- Government by reminding about the ongoing white ink scam and as to why such Act is important to prevent corruption.
Marwein also lashed out against BJP for its implementation ‘Demonetisation ‘and ‘GST’ as it makes more complicated to the lives of the people. In his final note Marwein promised of quality education and healthcare for the people of North Shillong and State as a whole.

H.D.R Lyngdoh aims for C.M post

After successfully joining congress H.D.R Lyngdoh aims of winning the upcoming election from Sohiong constituency. The Home Minister is also expecting to be the next Deputy Chief Minister or Chief Minister after victory in 2018. This big expectation of Lyngdoh is seen when veteran politician like R.C Laloo and D.D Lapang decided to bowed out from next year competition.

The former HSPDP leader said that being the Deputy Chief Minister will provide him more platforms to bring more development in the constituency.

KHNAM accused P.N Syiem of neglecting rule 128

The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) accused KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem for not taking up the Rule 128 seriously.

the Union youth wing president Thomas Passah said that KHNAM had remind Syiem several times for  the amendment of  rule 128 of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils), Rules, 1951 in order to prevent non-tribals from taking part in the election of district council but he (Syiem) did not pay any heed to their demands.

KHNAM also criticised the KHADC CEM for not being serious about amendment of the rule 128 despite MDC Adelbert Nongrum brought twice the matter to discussion in the District Council.

This election Meghalaya Congress unfortunate to face stalwart drop outs..

One by one, like rain drops from a leaf, the Congress stalwarts are dropping out, from facing the ensuing elections, which has surprised many. What are the underlying reasons is the big question. Leaders like Roshan Warjri, Roytre Christopher Laloo, Deathwell D. Lapang, all of whom can very well face the electoral battle for yet another term, have just dropped out of the scene. All along they had been part of the coalition government led by the Congress and that the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had held the reins. However, all along he was a captain of a ship that was about to run a  ground, or worst still of a ship that was always brewing a mutiny. Congress is unfortunate that its trusted lieutenants have just dropped out. The question is, can the Congress High Command, send in emergency life beats?

Yet another hard time for Congress in Meghalaya: DD Lapang backs off to contest in Assembly elections

Amidst this cold winter season, it is like throwing a bucketful of icy water on the Indian National Congress of Meghalaya, as D.D. Lapang, a five-time Chief Minister and President of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress, had side-stepped from contesting the ensuing assembly elections. Nongpoh, has been the home ground of D.D. Lapang and this time it is just giving a walk-over to rival parties and contestants to fill the vacuum. However, Lapang has said that he would work for the party. But he would not have that energetic enthusiasm and commitment. In the meantime, the National People’s Party, (NPP), has propped up C.B. Syiem, to contest against Kong Rona Khymdeit of the United Democratic Party (UDP), both of whom are freshers in the Ri Bhoi political scenario. The Congress workers and supporters of Nongpoh are now left in a quandary.

Inconsistency in political phase of Meghalaya elections??

The process of the Meghalaya elections, though started, yet the pace has not been picking up. Not a single political party has declared the final list of candidates and the shuffling of the cards is still going and yet to be distributed. However the present trend is that quite a number of new faces would take part in the poll race. The mood of the voters just like the changing weather pattern is yet to be stabilised, as there is an en-masse shift of allegiance, from one party to another in many of the constituencies. In the Shella constituency, for instance, which is the stronghold-fortress of the United Democratic Party (UDP) of Donkupar Roy, there is a shift of allegiance, where most of the voters are now supporting the newly Peoples Democratic Party (PDF), which is a threat to the confident and unbeaten UDP leader Donkupar Roy.

Chief Minister laid the base for the first state-sponsored University

Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma in the presence of Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Zenith Sangma laid the base for the first state-sponsored university Captain Williamson Sangma State Technical University, Tura and College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Jewilgre in South West Garo Hills.

The Chief Minister while delivering his speech said that this university will cater to the state of Meghalaya and its campuses and study centre will be established in different parts of the country and globally. He informed that in 2011 a bill was passed and Rs. 19 cr has been sanctioned for construction of university building at Jewilgre which is about 20 km fromTura.Other officials present at the foundation programme were North Tura MLA, N R Marak, Raksamgre MLA L D Sangma, GHADC CEM Boston Marak, MDC’s Ismail Marak, J Sangma, K Marak, Co-Chairman, State Planning Board, F Ch Momin, South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Cyril Darlong Diengdoh, ADC, H D B Sangma, Superintendent of Police, Bobby S. W. Momin, E.A.C D A Sangma and TMB Chairman Donbosh Marak were amongst those present at the gathering.
