BJP to follow same old tactics

With the election just couple month away the Meghalaya Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) finally admitted it incapability to project fresh faces and popular leaders hence following the same old style by embracing same set of MLAs from other parties.

BJP leader in-charge in Meghalaya Alphons Kannanthanam told reporters that “In politics you cannot completely get new faces, we need people with experience but wherever we have governments, those governments deliver, and that is a big difference.” This reaction is a result of BJP roping sitting MLAs to join its fold when earlier it had claimed to field only fresh faces.

Alphons added that the party need people from all segments of society who are experienced, but corruption is something that BJP will not compromise.

HNYF demand the immediate removal of B.D.O

A delegation of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) met the Minister in-charge C&RD Comingone Ymbon to demand the immediate removal of Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mawthadraishan community and rural development block before the end of this year.

Banlang Sohphoh, the organization Finance Secretary while speaking to media persons said that they want an experience Officers in place of incumbent BDO L. Diengdoh, besides the removal of L. Lyngdoh the organization also demanded the government to repair the building of the block office.

He informed the press that the minister has promise the delegation that he would look into the matter but have not given them any assurance as to when action will be taken; meanwhile Sohphoh said that the Union would be compelled to take stern decision if the government fail to address the issues.

NCSK demand increment of sweepers benefits 

Jagadish Hiremani representative of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) has asked the Meghalaya government to increase the salary of safaiwalas (sanitation workers) and reserve 5% seat in educational institutions to their dependents. The member during the meeting in Shillong brief the press that there are around 400 safaiwalas under the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) but only 98 are permanent workers of the board.

Hiremani who is the first official to Visit the state said it is the duty of the Government to lay out specific programmes of action towards elimination of inequalities in status, facilities, and opportunities for Safai Karamcharis under a time-bound action plan. He added that the state government to increase the salary of the safaiwalas from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10, 500 and to look into their welfare over all.

NPP's Conrad Says he will Send the current Chief Minister of Meghalaya behind bars for his corrupt activities.

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, is now subject to facing frontal attacks by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and National People's Party (NPP) leaders. More so becoming an object of targeting practise by his political adversaries. NPP leader Conrad Sangma, has described Mukul Sangma as being the most corrupted, not as a person but as head of the state.

D.C appeal citizens to maintain cleanliness

The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District has strongly advised all citizens to follow a systematic collection, segregation, disposal, and overall management of waste to maintain the cleanliness of Shillong city from public and private amenities across the City.

The Commissioner wants immediate response and participation of the public to save the streets, roadways, footpaths, public transportations, parking lots, open spaces, schools, colleges, hospitals, public offices, market areas etc. Strict action will also include for any offenders. These include an arrest and a fine of Rs. 5000 will be imposed upon conviction by a Court of Law.

MLA’s salary reduced by Rs 8000/-

During the Cabinet Meeting the Meghalaya Government has decided to cut down the salaries of MLA’s by Rs 8000/-. While speaking to media person Dr. Mukul Sangma said that irrespective of timings, Government had to do what it considered good. And it is wrong to alleged everything as election gimmick.

The news was delivered by Parliamentary Affairs minister, MM Danggo. During the last budget session this year, the salaries of MLAs were raised to Rupees two lakh ten thousand hence with this cut the total salary will be Rupees two lakh two thousand. With the reduction of MLA’s salary it is also expected that the Government would be forced to increase the salary of Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and all the ministers.

‘Treat HIV positive people with love’- Meena Kharkongor

Meena Kharkongor the chairperson of Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, while addressing on the occasion of ‘World AIDS Day’ said that “there must be a concerted effort to look after HIV positive people with love, support, and quality treatment’.  The Chairperson of MSCPCR encouraged the people to treat the victims with respect and dignity, she also stress on awareness and support and not to stigmatize and discriminate such people.

Kharkongor was addressing during the celebration of ‘World AIDS Day’ at Sri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture Research, Shillong. She also reminds the people that the Commission welcomes any coordination for this cause from Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) or any organisation.

Cha n g e m a k e r X c h a n g e stands for an exchange of ideas between young people who are working on innovative solutions to social, environmental or societal problems in their immediate surroundings. At five-day exchange meetings, we are to deepen our knowledge and further develop our initiatives and business models. We are to network, enhance our own initiatives in a dialog with other participants, and start joint projects.
