Letter from the Editor in Chief
January 2015
December a month of lights, snow and feasts; time to make amends and tie loose ends; finish off what you started and hope your wishes come true. Unfortunately, for part of north east it was not a good time. The good news is that a chapter on insurgency in Garo hills of Meghalaya were partly closed with the signing of peace pact between government and the ANVC. Though complete peace in Garo hills cannot be achieved unless and until other insurgent groups are either brought to negotiation table or forced to surrender. The sad news is that, in the BTC area once again, there was a massive violence just before Christmas in which mostly Adivasis were killed by none other than NDFB (s). The crime was so heinous as they were brutal to the extent of putting a gun inside the month of a 5 month old infant and shooting. Incidents like these are unfortunate and unacceptable. It appears that the centre and the state has learnt their lesson and toughened their stand on the insurgent groups. It has been made absolutely clear that the centre will not talk to any north east insurgent group who are killing innocent people. The shift in the policy of the centre should help in reducing insurgency in north eastern region. But at the same time the government of India must develop political diplomacy with Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar, so that the cadres of North east militant organizations do not take shelter in these countries. Something which is actually happening. This month we have covered both the news extensively. There is also a need to examine the links between politicians and terrorist groups as it has been alleged time and again that in north eastern region these groups are flourishing because of the patronage from the politicians.
The year 2014 was the year of Mr. Narendra Modi wherein his party have come to power with absolute majority and the strength of the party is growing day by day. This change will definitely bring dynamism in the country in the process of development. Mr. Narendra Modi has become a symbol of hope for the people of India. Each category of the people from poor to middle class to industrialist are all hoping that things will change for the better in the country. We only hope and wish Mr. Narendra Modi and his team all the best.
At home, we have Mr. Tarun Gogoi, the Chief Minister of Assam who has successfully completed 13 years in office and is still going strong. It is to his credit that he has been able to bring developments in many fields better than other bigger states of India and with his maturity and leadership he even sorted out the dissident issue of the party in a much tactful way. Our best luck to Mr. Gogoi.
We wish our readers a Very Happy New Year and hope that 2015 will be a great year.
