All parts of the society need to feel that the police service is their police service, and that does not happen unless all parts of society are represented in the police. – Chris Patten. Police protects the society and helps in maintaining law and order of the area. Imagine, if they are the victims of the circumstances, which are not explainable, than it is a matter of serious concern. The case of Mr. Pearlystone Joshua Marbaniang, the police officer of the Meghalaya Police Force is something of this nature. Our cover story this month is dedicated to this curious case related to late P. J. Marbaniang. The subject was indeed grieve that forced for an FIR by the family and a special investigation team (SIT) by the State government. (L) Pearlystone Joshua Marbaniang was known to me from his childhood as we studied together in the same school and class. A perfect man with great honesty and uprightness was perhaps a victim of his own good habits. This month, we have also centered a special supplement on BTC area, which inspite of challenges has supported huge development in all sectors under the leadership of Mr. Hagrama Mohilary. It is his 13th year in office and elections are due shortly. Inspite of the violence committed by militant organizations the leadership has not allowed the derailment of development which is evident from the supplement. This month we have also seen that Tarun Gogoi government has reshuffled its ministry with new faces. This assumes significance as the state of Assam is going to the polls very shortly. Though 4 seats has been kept tactically vacant to be given by the CM to the people who perform better. It is to be noted that in Assam there has been change at organizational level and young and senior congressman Anjan Dutta has been appointed as President of INC. Ever since he has taken over the charge of President of the party there has been many activities to strengthen the party base. This reshuffling of the ministry may be seen as a part of this process and also to curb the voice of dissident group once and for all. The political climate in Nagaland is also quite uncertain and change of guards is expected. It is to be seen in the coming days as to what really happens. An article on this will give you food for thought on this vital issue.
