150 Years Of Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi is called Mahatma because of his great works and his peaceful methodology to bring independence to the country. During the times when the Indians were filled with rage and hatred for the British and wanted to destroy them using violent methods, Gandhi ji’s peaceful and effective methodology of fighting them proved to be a source of inspiration for many. He gave speeches to motivate the youths of the country to fight against the British rule. Many prominent leaders joined him and adopted his ways to attain freedom, which ultimately inspired the masses and the movement of freedom, moved to every part of the country. More than 90 million people of India were not born when Mahatma Gandhi died on January 30, 1948. In this issue of Eastern Panorama, we brought out a special feature on Mahatma Gandhi and his life from birth to death and major events such as Satyagraha, Champaran Movement, Kheda Satyagraha, Khilafat Movement, Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, Dandi March and Irwan Pact, Round Table Conference, Quit India Movement, Freedom and Partition of India along with a page on assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

The assassination of Mahatma Gandhi was indeed a Black Letter Day in history of India. In Kolkata on that day, Rajagopalachari said and I quote “Bharat Mata is writhing in anguish and pain over the loss. No man loved Bharat Mata and Indians more than Mahatma Gandhi…..No one could die a more glorious death than Mahatma Gandhi. He was going to the seat of his prayer to speak to his Rama. He did not die in bed calling for hot water, doctors or nurses. He did not die after mumbling incoherent words…..He died standing, not even sitting down”.

On this day, the Government of India has appealed to every citizen of the country to stop the single use of plastics which is making adverse effect on our environment. The quality of a good leader is that, while he makes an appeal, people accept it gracefully. Without enacting any law and pressure, people in India have already started to reduce the use of single use plastics and necessary awareness has been created, all because, Mr. Narendra Modi appealed to the people of India. In true serve, he is a leader of masses.

In spite of tremendous development in Science and Technology, the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi are still relevant in everybody’s life.

The Swachh Bharat Mission which has been started by the present government, was also taught to us by Mahatma Gandhi. Even after His death, Mahatma Gandhi is still in our faith.
