The Congress is in disarray now, with Rahul Gandhi threatening to submit his resignation and asking the Working Committee led by the party veteran Ahmed Patel and another member Venugopal to select a suitable replacement. The insiders in the Congress point out that, though, a section of Congress members are not unhappy with his likely decision, another section close to the Gandhi family, is pleading with Rahul not to take any drastic decision and insteadguide them with his leadership for future growth of the party. It is being reliably learnt that the Congress President is furious over the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan Chief Ministers, Kamal Nath and Ashok Gehlot, respectively for permitting their sons to contest in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections and termed it as encouraging dynasty politics.
Meghalaya Government committed for the welfare of farmers: Banteidor Lyngdoh
The Directorate of Agriculture Government of Meghalaya led by Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh along with other Agriculture Minister of India took part in the video conference to address the grievances of the farmers in the country. The Video Conference was chaired by Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar.
The main objective of this conference was on the management and strategies to tackle the issues of ‘Army Worm’ which has been affecting many crops especially in North East India. Agriculture Minister Banteidor said that in Meghalaya only three Districts were affected which include East Garo Hills, East Jiantia Hills and West Khasi Hills. He added that the Department has committed to protect crops from being destroyed by ‘Army Worm’, “everything now is under control and there is nothing to be worried about, the department have came up with bioi-pesticides to deal with such crisis” the Minister concluded.
In the video conference with the Union Minister the Minister was appraised with the overall performances of the farmers in Meghalaya. The Minister acknowledged the Union Minister that there are more than 6 to 6 lakhs farmers in Meghalaya and there are 51,999 farmers who are benefited from the Kissan Credit Cards (KCC) which is a smart cards for farmers to get loan from the Banks for their agriculture loan. The video conference also acknowledged about the PM Kissan scheme which provided financial assistance to the farmers across the country.
ICAR organizes Interface Meeting with Government of Meghalaya
With the aim to double the farmers’ income the ICARResearchComplexfor NEH Region organised a day long interface meeting with the state government officials. The main objective of the interface meeting was to strengthen the link ages between ICAR and the various state government departments of Meghalaya. The meeting mainly focused on the technological back stopping and capacity building of stake holders. In the inaugural session Dr. N. Prakash Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region welcomed the dignitaries. He said that the interface meet is a step towards the aim of doubling the farmer’s income of the region. Addressing the gathering Shri P. Sampath Kumar, IAS Commissioner & Secretary Agriculture Dept. Highlighted the various missions of the department and emphasized on the fact that that initiatives should be taken at the district level. The state is 65% deficit in pork production and hence farming can be encouraged for the youth in the region to generate employment. Shri C Manjunatha, IFS Secretary, Animal Health & Veterinary Deptt said that apart from organic farming organic milk production can increase the income of the farmers. He further discussed a success story about a village Mawmarang in South West Khasi hills which produces “organic milk” with the use of cattle ranche technique and there is immense scope in the sector to increase milk production of the state. The brainstorming and technical sessions were an integral part of the day long programme discussions were held on how to facilitate and support the infrastructure of the state. The program was attended by Dr. B.C.DekaDirector, ATARZone-III, Dr. N. B. Singh Dean, CPGS, Dr. U.K. Behera Dean, College of Agriculturealong with scientists, professors, researchers and academicians from the respective institutes.
Meghalaya eves dominates National Football tourney
Meghalaya pulled off another comprehensive victory in the Sub-Junior Girls National Football Championship by defeating Jammu and Kashmir 7-1 in Cuttack today. The girls dominated proceedings from the start, putting pressure on the J&K defence, and a brilliant shot from outside the box by Napaleroiki Lytan in the fourth minute gave Meghalaya the lead.Despite the scorching heat Meghalaya continued to press hard and doubled the lead in the 19th minute through Sunalinda Iawren.A corner kick for Meghalaya in the 36th minute led to Kashmir conceding an own goal and soon after Sanfida Nongrum made it 4-0 in the 38th minute. J&K pulled a goal back in the 50th minute, but Meghalaya then added three more to their tally, with a brace by Fragrancy Riwan 55’, 80’ and one by Da-ai-jingsuk Basaiawmoit 77’.
With this win Meghalaya climbed to the top of Group G with a better goal difference over second-placed Gujarat. Meghalaya’s last group game against Gujarat on Friday will thus act as the decider as whoever wins will qualify for the quarterfinals.

ICAR organizes Orientation & Validation of diagnostic Kits
Demonstration of 17 animal disease diagnostic kits assembled and developed under the DBT-ADMAC project was held at Division of Animal Health, ICAR RC NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya from 10th to 11th June 2019.
The kits were developed with combined efforts of regional partners like College of Veterinary Sciences (CVSc), Khanapara, Guwahati (Core lab-I), ICAR RC NEH, Umiam, Meghalaya (Core lab-II) and CVSc, Mizoram (Core lab-III) along with national partners viz., National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (ICAR-NISHAD), Bhopal; ICAR-NRC on Equine, Hissar, National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (ICAR-NIVEDI), Bangalore and National Research Centre on Pig, Rani. The project was conceptualized for five years starting August 2014 for development and transferring of animal disease diagnostic kits and technologies to the NER state Animal Disease diagnostic Laboratories. After enormous efforts the project came into implementation this year. All the NE states Veterinary diagnostics wings participated in the program; they were briefed about the utility of these diagnostics kits and were given hands on training. They were also provided with a comprehensive diagnostic package consisting of all these 17 kits for validation at their respective laboratory so that they can be used in future. The kits have been developed indigenously by three NER-Core labs and three national labs. This is expected to tremendously benefit the states in terms of savings earned by saving on valuable foreign exchequer. Dr. N. N. Barman elaborated on the concept and validation of the diagnostic Kits and how disease detection can strengthen animal disease management. Addressing gathering Dr. N. Prakash Directors of ICAR-RC NEH said that with disease diagnostic kits and the launch of Biotech Kisan the famers will benefit immensely and the institute has reached new heights. Dr. N. Kalita, Director of Research, AAU emphasized on the fact that detection of disease outbreak can have a social impact of the society and the benefits of it are immense.Speaking on the occasion Dr C. Shylla Director, Vety. Services said that the right diagnostic at the right time can be a boon for the disease management scenario in the state. The program was attended by Directors of ICAR-NRC-Pig, NERDDL, Guwahati, CVSc, Khanapara, ATARI, Umiam and Shri GaigondingPanmei, Financial Advisor NEC Shillong along with scientists, professors, researchers and academicians from the respective institutes.
