Meghalaya aims to increase revenue in Exercise Department

The Meghalaya Government today in its cabinet meeting has decided to push laws that will enhance and improve the revenue collection by the Exercise Department in the State.

Speaking to media person after the cabinet meeting Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the State Government will come up with several rules for the Exercise Department to increase their revenue collection in the State.

“we have receives several suggestion by the cabinet members regarding the rules to enhance the revenue collection in the state, therefore we will incorporated those rules before giving final nod to the rules for increasing the revenue collection in the Exercise Department in the State” Conrad K Sangma.

When asked on legalizing the wine making which has day by day becoming popular in the state, the Chief Minister said that the Government will look for ways to make wine making legal in the State.

Nongrah Presbyterian School torched by Unknown miscreants

Unknown miscreants today early morning torched the staff room of Nongrah Presbyterian School. Principal of Nongrah Presbyterian School Miss B.T Jyrwa said that around 8:20 in the morning the students saw smokes coming out from the staff room and on opening the room the fire was engulfing among the desk and chair of the staff room.

“We condemn this act and we urge anyone who have issue with the school or its management to come forward and talk about it” Miss Jyrwa. She added that the school or its authority had never had any issue with its students or parents hence its is heart breaking to see such incident happen to the school.

It can be understood that the motive of this act can be led to money issue which clearly indicates in the message placed by the miscreants in the school notice board. It may be mention that similar case has happen somewhere in 2017 where miscreants rob the school but the school authority withdraw the FIR when they came to know that the robbery was committed by minors.

Meghalaya Indigenous People Front demand KHADC to register land in Meghalaya

The Meghalaya Indigenous People Front (MIPF) earlier today met Titus Chyne Executive Memebrs (EM) in his office chamber of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to demand from the District Council to implement the 'Land Holding Certificate' of the people in Meghalaya.

Speaking after the meeting Vice President of MIPF Kitboklang Lyngdoh said that the organization form time to time have received complaints from the people regarding the difficulties they faced in getting loans from the banks as banks do not accept the ‘Land Holding Certificates’

“With the registrations of lands by the people of Meghalaya, it will help the government to prepare a proper map of Meghalaya especially in the border areas, hence we urged the Distrcit Council to helps the people in registering their lands in the near future” Kitboklang Lyngdoh

The MIPF had placed their demands to Titus Chyne which include 1) to implement the land holding Certificate 2) to issue notice to banks to accept the land holding Certificate of the KHADC and 3) to see that lands are registered in KHADC as to prevent from illegal encroachment etc.

In this regard the EM had assured that he will take up the matter with the Land Committee of the council.

Meghalaya Emergency Management and Research Institute Workers’ Union want GVK out of Meghalaya

 

The Meghalaya Emergency Management and Research Institute Workers’ Union (MEMRIWU) of Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) GVK along with the Khasi Student Union and Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP) today met the State Director Dipanker Choudhry to demand the immediate closure of GVK EMRI in Meghalaya, 

 

Speaking after the meeting with the management of EMRI FKJGP President Eldi lyngdoh said that the meeting has led to nowhere as the GVK has violated the 'status quo' sign between the Government and GVK Management. "Apart from violating the 'status quo' the management of GVK has violates the basic rights of its employees, they even has the audacity to deduct the salary of the agitating employees" Eldi Lyngdoh. The Student accused the State government of not taking responsible in the issues faces by the employees.

 

President of MEMRIWU Roypar Kharraswai said that the union demand immediate termination of GVK and the state Government should take responsible of the emergency system in the State because the GVK management don't respect their employees and had bulldozed their rights. The President asserted that before terminating the contract the GVK should pay all their dues to their employees.

 

To mention the MEMRIWU went on an indefinite strike following non-fulfillment of their demands on 11th July 2019.

MPCC organize rally against BJP Government

The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today organized rally against the misrule of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the country.

Speaking to media person in Shillong, MPCC President Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh said that the Indian National Congress (INC) is organizing series of such agigational program all over the country to oppose the ‘fist’ rule of the BJP Government. “The Objective of this rally is to show the party stand on the misrule of the BJP government in the country” Celestine Lyngdoh said.

The MPCC President said that no matter what number the BJP got in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, we will always oppose to the motive of the BJP Government. “We demand the Government to withdraw the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which is a greater threat to the North Eastern Region” Celestine Lyngdoh said. The MPCC president accused the BJP Government of neglecting farmer’s issues in the country.

“In the last 45 years the Indian economy has fallen to its worst scenario since the BJP came to power which has affect common citizens of the country as unemployment has increase in the country”  Celestine Lyngdoh said.

The MPPC President added that the party will do everything in power to stop the BJP government from implementing CAB and it will expose the BJP double standard politics in the country.

KHADC to go ahead distributing forms to local vendors

Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Executive Member (EM) in charge of Trade Paul Lyngdoh said that the Council condemns the action of some hawkers and street vendors under the umbrella of the Meghalaya and Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Associatio) on Monday. The hawkers and street vendors had staged a protest against the order of the KHADC directing all hawkers to register with the Council.

 

Speaking to media person Paul Lyngdoh said that it was not an appropriate for them to come and barge into the office of the CEM to show their protest against the decision of the Council.

“The Council is an institution for the ethnic community of Meghalaya, and if they don’t respect to the Council, then it indicates bad image for the people outside the State, moreover there is no legitimate ground on their demands to barge into the council without notice” He said.

 

While clarifying on the ground of distributing vendors forms to the local vendors, the EM in charge of Trade said that the purpose of giving form is to get information like what is the numbers of hawkers in Meghalaya, to help vendors make claims of their business or grounds, to safeguard their business transaction and to curbs Benami by local vendors.

 

“The Government through the honourable High Court of Meghalaya in the past have proposed for hawkers zone, hence the giving out forms by the Council will eventually helps identified the genuine street vendors in the future when the hawkers zone comes up” He said. Paul Lyngdoh urges all local vendors to come and collect the forms from the District Council and get themselves register. Meanwhile when Paul Lyngdoh asked regarding the ongoing eviction drive said that the Council will go ahead with the registration process very soon.
