The Shawshank Redemption (Must Watch)
This movie revolves around Andy Dufresne played by Tim Robbins who is wrongfully convicted of the murder of his wife and her lover. After a quick trial, Andy is sent to Shawshank prison where he befriends Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding played by Morgan Freeman.
A seasoned inmate, Red is a lifer who specializes in smuggling in many things into the prison.
Initially, Andy has a hard time adjusting to life behind barsand Red plays a vital role in acclimatizing Andy to the ins and outs of prison life. In a random turn of events that ultimately changes Andy’s standing in the prison, he offers to help one of the guards with his tax problems in exchange for bottles of beer for everyone in his work party.
From then on, Andy becomes a verifiable jack of all trades, always busy with something or the other. He makes it his mission to improve the prison’s shabby library and also helps those prisoners who want to learn. However, his primary role in the prison is handling tax returns and helping the prison warden played by Bob Gunton falsify the accounting books. Over the years, he gains the respect of most of the other prisoners and guards.
As time goes by, and prisoners come and go, one prisoner is brought in who has details of the crime for which Andy was wrongfully convicted. This prisoner is quickly dealt with and silenced by the warden and his crooked guards. Andy realises that he has become too important to the warden because of his knowledge of what is really going on inside and that the warden is hell bent on keeping him locked up. Andy begins to hatch a plan to turn the tables on the warden and finally vindicate himself.
