The Butcher of Mumbai
The Butcher of Mumbai
Kasab looked blank when the death sentence was pronounced.
When Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the Mumbai attacks was brought to hospital by the police, he said, “I do not want to die. Put me on saline.”
The Butcher of Mumbai as he has come to be known, however, is going to die: the rope is to squeeze the life out of him. Kasab is the 52nd person to be placed on death row in India. A Pakistani, Kasab has turned into one of India’s costliest prisoners. Till now, the Government has spent over Rs. 35 crore to ensure his safety.
Kasab cried as he was led back to the courtroom after stepping out briefly with the judge’s consent to drink water. When the special judge M.L. Tahaliyani asked Kasab directly if he wanted to say something regarding the punishment, he simply looked at the judge blankly and mutely shook his head and sat down.
The death penalty will not be implemented immediately.
