With the monsoon continuing without respite, ominous apprehensions of a deluge hang over Barak Valley. Incessant rains in the hills, plains as well as catchment areas have led to the flooding of Barak and all its major tributaries - Sonai, Rukini, Jatinga, Madhura, Katakhal, Kushiara, Longai and Shingla. According to Dibakar Bhattacharjee, Executive Engineer, Water Resource Department, there has been 2400 mm of rain against 3400 mm of average annual rainfall. He further said that from March 28 with which began the monsoon, there have only been a few days till date which have been without rain.
