LETTER FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
After the independence of India, Sikkim continued its protectorate status with the union of India after 1947, and the Republic of India after 1950. In 1975, due to geo-political compulsion, Indian Army took over the town of Gangtok, which is presently the capital of Sikkim. Later, a referendum was held that led to the deposition of the monarchy and Sikkim joined India as 22nd State on May 16, 1975.
