April 2016 Harsh Jhunjhunwala
The Northeast India is a special place on the planet where the almighty has been kind enough to provide not only with abundant love of nature but also truly blessed human beings. Any of the rituals that are practiced by the tribal culture of the region will always pay its homage to Mother Nature first. With simplicity in the hearts and energy and synergy to mingle with the world it is time for the rest of the world to know about what the really is the Northeast India. Our cover story this month deals with this in mind and tries to pick 24 such secrets which reflect about the region. Dowry or women feticide are unheard and unthinkable in the conscience of the people here, which might surprise many but few are aware of the might that women hold, be it in the practices of the family or the society. Women empowerment might be a necessity for the country and world but the Northeast has it engraved in the very fabric of its existence. From women markets of Manipur to ‘Kaduh’ the youngest daughter in a Khasi family, the roles of women might be a source of inspiration for all the troubled women elsewhere. The application of ‘Chandan’ on the forehead in Manipur will give tough competition to the revelers of Vrindavan. The mysteries of Mayong will leave any paranormal expert in awe. What is required today is that the Northeast India be aware of its gifts and let the world know that ‘Yes we are here and Yes we can’.
Readers might be wondering why 24? Well this is our 24th Anniversary issue and hence the theme of 24 secrets. Other special report that has been prepared by Dr A Rajmani Singh, Head of Commerce Department from University of Manipur on the theme of development will be an eye opener.
