  No road, No Vote

There would be no elections in nine villages in the Mairang constituency of East Khasi Hills, as a mark of protest against the negligence of the government for not repairing a six kilometre road from Laitarted to Nonglyput. The Hynnniewtrep Youth Council along with the residents of these villages have taken the task upon themselves in repairing the road. These villages include Pyrda, Pyrdathymmai, Nongmynsain, Nonglyput, Sohksar (A), Sohksar Sohkhwai, Rimshylla and Khyllem.

The Sorkar of village Nongmynsain Nonglyput, Biren Nongrum has said the people were compelled to take upon themselves because of the adamant attitude of the government and also public leaders and representatives.

Robert Garnett Lyngdoh

The present election atmosphere in Meghalaya has started in a sober mind, except for those persons, who are frantically seeking and searching for a party ticket in contesting the elections. To quote the words of Robert Garnett Lyngdoh, former Home minster of the state, urged upon the electorate to vote in a responsible manner for electing any person, belonging to any political party. Secondly, he said there should not be any fragmentation of votes. Having a jibe at the political parties contesting the polls, the former Congress Home Minister said, political parties talk, that they would want to be in the government, yet they never talk about governance. The people cannot take upon themselves, without direction. There should be a flux in the political system, which result in the formation of a credible team, so that people can vote and trust.

HYC, HANM oppose Toll Gate

The Hynniewtrep Achick National Movement (HANM) and the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) have strongly opposed the motive of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to set up two toll gates in East and West Jaintia hills Districts.

The reason for this opposed is the unsatisfactory work done regarding the expansion of the highway. The size of the highway remains the same but the NHAI has only been repairing side drains besides adding black topping in repairing pot holes. Both the union want the HNAI to expand the roads where ever possible as Jaintia Hills District is quite busy in terms of transport.
