No Confidence Motion against the CEM

Mr Adelbert Nongrum the MDC of Jaiaw will display his non-confidence motion against Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) regarding accusing the council of violating the norms including issuing of Labour license, trading license and not changing the section 128 AD. This section 128 AD basically deals with the appointment of agents in issuing both labour and trading license which was object by all especially the HYC. This norm which Mr. Albert points it out was to check the flow of non-tribal’s in the state through trade and commerce.

 

He accused Mr Pyngshngain the CEM of betraying the people of the state regarding these three norms. Mr. Adelbert will take up the no confidence motion on the 12th of October during the winter session in the district council.

'Shri Ganga Prasad' The new Governor of Meghalaya

Shri Ganga Prasad the new Governor of Meghalaya was appointed by President Ram Nath Kovind along  four other Governors and one Lt Governor.

Prasad began his political career in Bihar when he got elected as the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) of Bihar in 1994. He retained the position for 18 years. He was the member of the Jan Sangh from 1967.

Prasad in his political career was also the leader of the Bihar Legislative Council during the previous NDA government in the state and will replace B Purohit from his additional charge as governor of Meghalaya.

 

Born in 1937 he was elected as member of legislative council in 1994 where he continuously held his post till 2002. He had also held the post of Leader of Opposition in the legislative council from 1997-98 to 2005 and then became the leader of the ruling combine in the legislative council from 2005 to 2012 under the first Nitish-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar.

One of his four sons, Sanjeev Chaurasia, is a BJP MLA from Digha constituency in Patna district. Prasad is also the 'Pradhan', or chief, of Arya Samaj in Bihar and the chairman of Dadhichi Dehdaan Samiti, a Patna-based organisation for promoting voluntary organ donation. He heads the food grain dealers' association and Vaishya Mahasabha in Bihar.

MSSASA demands for Renumeration

The Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools Association SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has demanded the government to release their arrears and salaries at the earliest in a press release today. The demand was addressed to W.R. Lyngdoh Secretary Education Department Government of Meghalaya and Ambrose Ch. Marak State Project Director (SPD) SSA, SEMAM.

The MSSASA central Body President Aristotle C. Rymbai has expressed displeasure over the irregularity since the commencement of the current academic year. The SSA teachers’ salaries was supposed to be paid at the earliest of February 2017 for the financial year 2016-17 yet the 8 months Arrears is still pending till date.

This irregularity is not new phenomena as it has also occurred in the past. The organisation raised question on the incompetent of the authority and as to why the Education Department and the State Implementation Society SSA-SEMAM cannot fulfil their rightful demands.

The District Election Officer of the East Khasi Hills informed the public that the Electoral Registration Officer of the 13-Mawryngkneng (ST), 14-Pynthorumkhrah (GEN), 15-Mawlai (ST), 16-East Shillong (ST), 17-North Shillong (ST), 18-West Shillong (GEN), 19-South Shillong (GEN), 20-Mylliem (ST), 21-Nongthymmai (ST), 22-Nongkrem (ST), 23-Sohiong (ST), 24-Mawphlang (ST), 25-Mawsynram (ST), 27-Pynursla (ST) and 29-Mawkynrew (ST) Assembly constituencies has published the Drafts of the Last Part of Electoral Rolls with reference to 01-01-2017 as qualifying date and in accordance with Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. Additional information is available for inspection at their offices and Record Offices/Authorities during working hours on all working days.

Deborah Marak will fight to retain her seat

Deborah Marak is confident to retain her seat for the upcoming 2018 Meghalaya Assembly election. With over 500 members pledged to lend their support to the Congress legislator from Williamnagar she is also sure that congress will eventually gain maximum of seats in the region. She expressed her confidence that in days to come more leaders would join the party and further strengthen their base.

She stated that Congress has always committed for the welfare of the state. There has been number of initiative which has been taken up to improve the socio-economic condition of the people and people have seen visible change. This is the reason that people have discarded the counter claims against us made by the vicious cycle,” Marak said, while stating that electorates need to be informed, so that they make a conscious decision.

 

Marak have frequently visited places in and around East Garo Hills and took stern steps to improve the life of the people. She also believes that leaders should not make false claims and promises to win election but instead should prove through their service to the people.

Exhibition cum Cultural Programme on “New India-We Resolve to Make”

Shri  Arjun Ram Meghwal the Union Minister of state for water resources, River development and Parliamentary Affair today inaugurated the 5 days long Exhibition cum Cultural Programme on “New India-We Resolve To Make” at All Saints Hall here in Shillong. The exhibition is being organised by the ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in association with Oil India Limited (OIL) and Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP).

While speaking during the programme the chief guest clearly remind the audience on the importance of history of India fight for freedom. He also assured the public that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi personal dream of making Northeast India developed and gate way for the Southeast Asia trade and commerce. Shri Meghwal frequently reminds the audience about Shillong being a historical city which was frequently used by both the British in the pre-independence era.

 

Shri Meghwal also appeals to the people to strive for change in order to bring development to not only Meghalaya but also contribute to the development of the country as a whole. The exhibition depict both pictures and documentaries events of some prominent incident during the struggle for India’s independence.

Whole Meghalaya be like Mawlynnong

With the newly open Sanitary Landfill for disposal of processed rejects and inert waste at Marten the Government of Meghalaya is keen on making the state a garbage free state from this year on ward. Dedicating the landfill site at Marten to the citizens of the city, Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister, Shri R. V. Lyngdoh said that the landfill ensure that the waste generated are properly segregated and dumped in the site. Also the government is working out for other technological based solutions on waste management in order to make Meghalaya a garbage free state.

Lyngdoh also remind the public that the state government recently passed strictly law regarding littering in and around the state. Any person disobeying the lawful orders is liable to be arrested under section 102 of Meghalaya Police Act, 2010 and on conviction by a court of law will be liable to be fined Rs 5000. With his dream of making the whole Meghalaya Like “Mawlynnong” Lyngdoh said that “cleanliness should always begin at home.”

Zenith M. Sangma

He is a graduate politician is an active participant in various NGO since 1996 and was a vice president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress since 2001. Despite being active in politics since 1996 he was only elected to the Legislative Assembly in 2003 from Rangsakona constituency on Congress ticket. He was re-elected in 2013 general election. He is currently the Minister of Taxation, Excise, Housing Department and Sports & Youth Affairs Department.
