Sanbor inaugurated water supply at Kench’s trace locality

The Monitoring Cum Implementation Committee (MCIC) in presence of MLA Mr Sanbor Shullai incollaboration with the Dorbar Dong of Inverneil, Kench’s Trace and Upper Kench’s Trace, Shillong inaugurate the Implementation of Additional Water Supply Scheme for Tender Care School and Kench’s Trace Areas, under PHE Department.

The function was attended by Shri B.M.R Chyne, Convener of Dorbar Shnong Kench’s Trace, Shillong, in presence of Shri K.B. Nongbri, Rangbah Dong, Inverniel-Kench’s Trace, Shri Moonstar Shangpliang, Rangbah Dong, Kench’s Trace, Shri V Pamthied, Rangbah Dong Upper Kench’s Trace.

Mr Sanbor Shullai during his speech requested the members of the MCIC to monitor the project with cordial relationship and to systematically work out with Dorbar Dongs and the officials of PHE Department and Shillong Municipal Board.

KHNAM hail Court Verdict

Welcoming the judgment passed by the Meghalaya High Court against the appointment of MLAs as parliamentary secretaries, the Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has urged the Governor to disqualify such MLAs who previously hold the post.

After the verdict on Thursday the Court also left it opens for the Governor to decide on the question of disqualification of the parliamentary secretaries as members of the State Assembly.

KHNAM working President Adelbert Nongrum while speaking to the press said that the Congress-led government had appointed many parliamentary secretaries just to ensure its own political stability but not for serving the state as such appointment was only a waste of public money despite the fact that the state is facing huge financial crisis.

HSPDP elected its office bearers

The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Friday announced the office bearers of the party in North Shillong Constituency with an aim of providing goodand clean governance and unearths all corrupt practices.

The office bearers elected are the women’s wing and youth wing. Elected members was felicitated by HSPDP chief, Ardent M. Basaiawmoit in the presence of HSPDP candidate, Alester N. Diengdoh, MDCs, Teilinia Thangkhiew, Samlin Malngiang, and other HSPDP leaders, besides senior advocate, Ganold Massar.

HSPDP want Union Health Minister Intervention

The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has submitted a petition to Union health minister, J.P. Nadda regarding the issue of de-recognition of post graduate courses at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

HSPDP President and Legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit in a petition submitted to Nadda, said that the post graduate courses were started around five years back with full support of the Union ministry of health and family welfare and the state government.

The lapse came to notice during the inspection conducted by the Medical Council of India (MCI) several departments have been recommended for de-recognition like anesthesia, radiology, general, surgery, medicines. Upon inquiry the party came to know that the institute has increased a number of post graduate seats in certain disciplines like anesthesia without the permission of the ministry of health and family welfare.

The HSPDP also told the Union minister that the present NEIGRIHMS director, D.M. Thappa has refused to acknowledge the deficiencies and had sent the compliance report to the MCI with some alterations in the appointments of faculty at the institute’s clinical load and consequently, has put the institute at loggerheads with the MCI.

Another 2,500 crore for MeECL

The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited  has now reach the borrowing limit up to Rs 2,500 crore from financial institutions after a proposal to raise was approved by the state cabinet on Thursday. There are apprehensions that the MeECL which has to repay loan to financial institutions might increase the electricity charge from the consumers.

Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma told reporters after the cabinet meeting that at present, the borrowing limit of the MeECL is Rs 1,910 crore. He said that the hike in borrowing limit of the MeECL would also mean that the MeECL should ensure its ability to increase revenue earning, and become efficient and sustainable.

However the Chief Minister display fears over the increase of the borrowing limit of the MeECL saying that it would not affect the power consumers.

The Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretaries’ termed INVALID

Hour after the Meghalaya High Court declare ‘The Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretaries’ as invalid all Ministers voluntary resign from their respective post of ‘Parliamentary Secretaries’. The following MLAs who had held the post of parliamentary secretaries include, Cherak W. Momin, Brigady Marak, Sengnam Marak, Rophul S. Marak, Samuel Sangma, Limison D. Sangma, Winnerson D. Sangma, Kennedy Cornelius Khyriem, Robinus Syngkon, Micheal T. Sangma, Justine Dkhar, Ashahel D. Shira, Stephanson Mukhim, Noverfield R. Marak, Marthon Sangma, besides Comingone Ymbon and Celestine Lyngdoh.

It may be noted that one person identified as Madal Sumer from Panaliar in West Jaiñtia Hills previously has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the validity of the Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretaries (Appointment, Salaries, Allowances and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2005.

Sumer added that in few days he would file a representation before the Governor seeking disqualification of all the MLAs who were named in the PIL. He also said that the state government should direct the MLAs holding office of profit to return all the salary, perks, which they have withdrawn from the government from the date of their appointment for serving in the “unconstitutional office” as they stand disqualified from that date onwards.

TUR oppose the Meghalaya Community Participation & Public Services Social Audit Act, 2017

The Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) has strongly opposed the implementation of the Meghalaya Community Participation and Public Services Social Audit Act, 2017 in its present form. Angela Rangad said that the Act which was meant for ‘community participation’ was legislated without any ‘community participation’ or pre-legislative consultation.

Six months after the Bill was passed, the government decided to hold a small ‘consultation’ with select group of CSOs in the presence of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, K.N.Kumar, IAS, B. Dhar IAS (nominated – retired), she said while stating that TUR was also one of those invited to the said meeting.

The TUR also raise questions at the State Social Audit Council by claiming that this Social Audit is not an independent body because all the members of the council are government nominees. The ‘’ without any announcement of vacancy or criterion of appointment goes against the very principle of independence and transparency claimed TUR.

Meanwhile, the TUR demanded that the Act needs to be amended in a consultative process and the rules for the implementation of the Act need to be framed in a consultative and transparent manner.

State need to come up with more skill development programme” - Warjri

Smti. Roshan Warjri Minister of Health and Family Welfare gave away the State Award for Handicraft Artisans for the year 2016-2017 and Certificates to the participants of the Skill Development Training Programme on Packaging to Unemployed Youth and Entrepreneurs in a function organized by the Skill Development Training Programme.

Speaking on the occasion Warjri said that it was high time for the youth of the State to train themselves in different skills as government jobs are getting scarce. She reminds the people that the State Award has been instituted by the Government to give incentive and create awareness on different sources of livelihood. She added that the handloom and other products of the State were in high demand due to the quality of craftsmanship and thus stressed on the importance of packaging and marketing for entrepreneurs to move ahead for better and sustainable livelihood.

Other speaker during the function was Additional Chief Secretary, Mr. P. W. Ingty. The State Awardees for Handicraft Artisans received a cash award of Rs.50, 000/-, a trophy and a certificate while the participants of the Skill Development Training Programme were conferred with a certificate for their participation.
