Primary education is base of personal-social and cultural ethos along with economic booms. Who can deny this fact? Even though the emerging scenario of P-Education is not inspiring. Cocking a snook at the tall claims of the Centre and UP Government regarding promotion of education, the ramshackle condition of building of Basic Shiksha Parishad schools which sans the basic facilities speak volumes for the double standard residing in power.

There is no gainsaying that one of the most intractable problems having a longterm negative impact on the life of the people of Assam is the suspected foreigners from Bangladesh illegally living in the land-deficient State. Quite naturally, the local people were very much concerned over the large presence of illegal immigrants. After all, should the influx from across the border continues, it will not only turn the Assamese people into a minority in their own land but also pose a serious threat to their sociocultural life.

Staccato sounds of gunfire reverberating till recently in the still hills of Meghalaya practically have fallen silent. If the decadal trend of militancy is followed with 2008 acting as the base-year, we find the overall security situation in Meghalaya in particular and the North Eastern India as a whole improved substantially.

India the largest demographic dividend in the field of HigherEducation has undergone radical changes. These changes are so much that it has replaced the colonial style of education in which higher education remained within the custody of selected individuals. During the second half of the last century, higher education has gone a rapid change replacing the colonial style of education in which higher education (HE) and knowledge remained within the custody of selected individuals. Today, India is the largest contributor to the global workforce with its workingage population surpassing 950 million. It is no surprise then that, India has emerged to be the world’s third-largest economy – an achievement underpinned by its unique demographic advantage, but also a prospect that would not have translated into reality if not for the country’s pioneering reforms in university education over the past 20 years.

CSWO wants Govt to take action against cabbies

The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) have asked the state government to take action against taxis and maxi that refuses to ferry passengers and also to seize their permits.

In her statement, Anges Kharshing urged the government to ensure smooth operation by the public transports so as to serve the people well and those not adhering to norm their permits should be seized. She reminded that “Permits are given for public transport by the State Government to help commute the public from area to area and if those issued permits do not serve the public well and are fussy in travelling to destination within the service areas, or are overcharging, then the Transport Department should take away their permits and give them to those who gladly will provide service to the people,” she said.

She also urged the general public to take down the numbers of the taxis refusing to commute them or are over charging so that action can be taken against them.

This was after the organization had received many complaints against the taxis and maxi cabs for refusing to ferry passengers to certain areas within Shillong and are more interested to get full booking passengers, especially from Iewduh, Mothphran and Police Bazar.
