Nongstoin get its District and Session Court

Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Justice Tarun Agarwala inaugurated the permanent office building of the District and Session Court at Mawiong Pyndengrei, Nongstoiñ in West Khasi Hills district. In his inaugural address, the Chief Justice said that people of the area can come forward and sought legal advices and suggestions from the court, and called upon the judicial officers and staffs to extend their services for the benefit of the general masses and ensure that justice is done.

‘Modi is the investment of corruption’- Rahul Gandhi

Indian National Congress (INC) Chief Rahul Gandhi lashed out to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in particularly the honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their huge investment of money toward the upcoming election in the state. While addressing the public in Police Bazar Shillong Rahul Gandhi said that the money that BJP spend for the campaign in the state comes from the likes of Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallaya who have silently loot and convert all the ‘black money’ into ‘white money’. He added that BJP have huge sum of money and they are trying to buy votes and MLA in Meghalaya just like they did in Manipur and Goa.  When asked about the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, Rahul Gandhi said that Narendra Modi is behind the success of Nirav Modi  to run away with 22,000 crore to England.

Rahul Gandhi accused Narendra Modi of shielding the corrupt business men with huge chunk of black money by saying that “Modi is not actually against corruption, He is corruption, and he is the investment of corruption.”

While urging the people of the state to vote for Congress, Rahul Gandhi said “Congress party is made up of the spirit and freedom of millions of people in this country and it doesn’t matter have much money you have”.

UDP Umroi Circle Meeting

The United Democratic Party Umroi circle lead by its candidate Mangkara Pathaw today organised a public meeting at Mawpun village to educate the electorate regarding the objectives of the 2018 Legislative Election. The meeting was attended by eminent political leaders including Former Chief Minister and retired politician J.D Rymbai, former M.LA S.W Rymbai, former M.D.C Fabian Lyngdoh, H.Marwein and sitting MDC  and candidate from Umroi constituency Don Sumer.

Speaking during the meeting candidate of Umroi Constituency Don Sumer lashed out to NPP candidate Ngaitlang Dhar for not delivering what has been promised to the people. He accused Ngaitlang of using money power to buy electorates from the constituency. Don Sumer urged the people not to fall prey on any candidates who offer money for their support. He also lashed out to the Mukul Sangma-led Congress Government for its failure in tackling scams in the state especially with the recruitment of teachers and police.

The UDP candidate from Umroi Constituency Mangkara Pathaw has promise to look into the grievances of the Youth, Health, the agriculture community and education if he is voted to power.

Williamnagar Constituency awaits fresh poling date

After the report on the death of the NCP candidate was sent to the Election Commission of India by the Chief Electoral Officer, F.R. Kharkongor, the Meghalaya Election Department will have to wait for the announcement of fresh election date for Williamnagar Assembly. Meghalaya will go on polls on 27th February. Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer F.R Kharkongor said that announcement of fresh date will be decided by the Election Commission of India soon.

In order to maintain peace and fair election in the region an additional of 10 companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) has been sought from the Centre to be deployed and more security forces have been deployed in West Khasi Hills district bordering Garo Hills.

NCP demands NIA probe to Johnathone death

A day after the gruesome attack on the convoy of the NCP candidate which result in the death of the candidate and three others, the NCP Meghalaya had lodged a complaint with the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) FR Kharkongor claiming to be a ‘political murder’. The party has also demand for an NIA investigation.

NCP working President Vijay Raj while speaking to media persons in Shillong said that “It seems that the NCP candidates are being targeted by miscreants under the influence of some political party from the fact that threatening poster and houses of NCP candidate from was burnt down.

The NCP questioned the failure of the state machinery to provide much needed protection and the lack of seriousness of the government regarding the protection protocol for Johnathone as threats against him has happened also in the past.
