On 29th April 2019, Sh. Mulkh Raj Jarngal, the Additional Director General & HOD, North Eastern Region, Geological Survey of India, Shillong unveiled two geo-scientific display boards at the river bank of Wahrew Therriaghat, Sohbar Village and Mawmluh Cave in presence of Officers from District Administration, Mawmluh Cherra Cemented Limited (MCCL) Department of Tourism of Government of Meghalaya and local villagers and students. The display of these two boards with the Geo-Scientific Information (GSI) will help in creating awareness among the visiting tourists, students as well as the general public. The GSI took this step to polarize these two sites to educate the public and help them to preserve these places in order to conduct more studies regarding the climate changes around the globe.

The Indian aviation industry took a massive blow on 17 April 2019 when Jet Airways was forced to indefinitely halt all its flight operations after its banks rejected its plea for emergency funds. Once known as the nation’s largest airline, it contained a fleet of around 120 largely Boeing Co planes.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), India’s aviation sector supports 7.5 million jobs directly and indirectly in the country and makes up 30 billion rupees of its gross domestic product or 1.5 per cent of the economy. Data gathered from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reveals that India’s air passenger traffic has grown by at least 16% annually over the past decade. Domestic passenger traffic grew around 18.28 per cent to reach 243 million in 2018-19 and is expected to become 293 million in 2020. When it comes to international passengers, it grew by 10.43 per cent to reach 65 million in 2018 and traffic is expected to become 76 million in 2020. In 2018-19, domestic freight traffic stood at 1,213.06 million tonnes, while international freight traffic was at 2,143.97 million tonnes. India’s domestic and international aircraft movements grew 14.40 per cent and 9.40 per cent to 1,886.63 thousand and 437.93 thousand during 2017-18.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Shillong recently conducted raids in and around Shillong in relation to allegations of a major scam involving the Meghalaya Rural Bank(MRB) amounting to Rs. 14.34 Crores. The CBI conducted few raids after it got the information from General Manager of Meghalaya Rural Bank, Shillong in compliance with circulars which dated back to 1st July 2016 and 20th September 2017 issued by the Rural Bank of India and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) respectively. In the complaint, the General Manager requested the CBI, ACB, Shillong to register an FIR in the matter of fraud detected during an internal inquiry conducted by the Bank. Hundreds of uneducated farmers from more than five villages were cheated by the Bank and few so-called educated individuals.

The change has the potential to spell doom. The species is none other than human being. It is indisputably true that for our planet this species has become a burden. It is stated that earth’s temperature has risen 1 degree Fahrenheit in the last century. And the past 50 years of warming is due to human activity. With the passage of time the load is becoming heavier. Some of our activities being antagonistic to nature are instrumental in bringing woes to earth. The woes are rise of earth’s atmospheric temperature. It has reached the alarming level. Rampant deforestation, (it is estimated that earth is losing over 150,000 square km of tropical forest every year).  Burning of fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and oil, decomposition of wastes in landfills have released enormous amount of green house gases into atmosphere.
