As incessant downpour lashed in Meghalaya for almost a week starting from 20 September 2020 has left a trail of devastation in many parts of the state, leading to deaths of at least dozen of people besides damaging properties, roads, and bridges in different parts of the state. According to Meteorological Department, Meghalaya received a whopping of 260 mm of rainfall especially in Mawsynram areas for at least three days continuously.

In East Khasi Hills 8 people were reported killed due to landslide in Madanrting, Laban and Police Reserve and in Nongstoin of West Khasi Hills, two deaths were reported of drowning while one person was missing and in Mawjai, 6 people were drowned after their vehicle was swept away by strong currents when crossing a river.

Uttar Pradesh climbed upto 10 places to rank second in EoDB, 'ease of doing business'. Other than implementing business reforms, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath has made strenuous efforts to make congenial atmosphere for attracting investment. In recognition of the ongoing efforts of the Yogi Adityanath government to make Uttar Pradesh a better investment destination, the state has made a big jump to gain second position in the ease of doing business ranking 2019, released by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Uttar Pradesh climbed 10 places over its 2018 position, leaving behind several leading states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana and Rajasthan in the process, as per the ranking which is based on implementation of the Business Reform Action Plan for Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The COVID-19 pandemic is probably been the most devastating of financial and social crisis of recent times, leading to suspension of almost all economic activity and forcing nationwide lockdown across the globe.

In India, Tourism contributes approximately 5.06 per cent in India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) yet tourism can be seen as the worst hit sector in the country. The ongoing pandemic, travel restrictions, and the country wide lockdown have brought the entire tourism industry to a standstill, and unlike other sectors, tourism will take longer to recover as it does not fall under ‘Essential Commodities’.

As we have seen in the past, every 100 years there is one pandemic in whole or any part of the world resulted killing of millions of people. Again the first Cholera Pandemic (1817-1824) also known as the first Asiatic Cholera Pandemic, began near the city of Calcutta and spread throughout the Southeast Asia have killed millions of lives. The Spanish flu, also known as the 1918 Flu Pandemic, was an unusually deadly influenza pandemic lasting from 1918 to 1920 have killed more than 50 million lives. The COVID-19 Pandemic started its first case in Wuhan city capital of Hubei province of the People’s Republic of China in the last part of 2019 and till date it continues spreading the dreadful diseases all over the world. The ongoing COVID – 19 crisis has brought the world to a standstill with a pervasive impact across all sectors. Among the worst affected is education, with over 600 million school going students being impacted all over the world. According to UNESCO, the nationwide lockdowns in India and the resulting closing down of educational institutions has affected 32 crore students across the country, including those in schools in colleges.
