Parties Coalition

Inspite of the United Democratic Party (UDP) pre poll alliance with the Hills State Peoples Democratic Party (HSPDP), the political equation in the West Khasi Hills, ha remarkably changed with the entrance of the National People party (NPP), in areas like Mawkyrwat, where the veteran Congress leader, Rowell Lyngdoh, built up the party for the last 35 years, has been dumped, by the present leadership of Chief minister Mukul Sangma.

Bah Rowell Lyngdoh has revealed that in fighting within the Congress leadership and party members. Being a former Deputy Chief minister, he had did his best for the sake of development, in the six constituencies of West Khasi Hills, also for popularising the Congress, but his efforts were not appreciated.

No Tickets for Tom, Dick and Harry

The Nationalist Congress Party, while flexing its muscles, for the forth coming general elections in Meghalaya describe as an overwhelming response from the public and a lot of enthusiasm is generated. The party would not have any poll alliance. Candidates would be chosen, after a strict and thorough scrutiny. Tickets would be distributed from October 10 itself and the last date is fixed on November 30.  NCP leader Sanbor Shullai, presently representing Laban constituency, said party tickets, would not be given to any Tom, Dick and Harry.

Voice for Change

The voice for a change in the political set up and administration in Meghalaya has started blowing, from people subscribing to the “Voice of Change Movement”, the idea being freely blowing in the wind with no strings attached to particularly with any party contesting the 2018 polls, slated for February.

Under the leadership of Olet Kharsahnoh, the “Voice of Change”, protagonists have started touring and visiting and also meeting people across party affiliations, stressing upon them, that the need of the hour is to change for the better.

The “Voice of Change”, would be covering as many constituencies as possible, across the state, inspite of financial constraints, as the “Voice of Change’ mission is voluntary.

  No road, No Vote

There would be no elections in nine villages in the Mairang constituency of East Khasi Hills, as a mark of protest against the negligence of the government for not repairing a six kilometre road from Laitarted to Nonglyput. The Hynnniewtrep Youth Council along with the residents of these villages have taken the task upon themselves in repairing the road. These villages include Pyrda, Pyrdathymmai, Nongmynsain, Nonglyput, Sohksar (A), Sohksar Sohkhwai, Rimshylla and Khyllem.

The Sorkar of village Nongmynsain Nonglyput, Biren Nongrum has said the people were compelled to take upon themselves because of the adamant attitude of the government and also public leaders and representatives.
