The High Court of Tripura has directed the state government to ensure non-plying of converted paddle rickshaw into motor-rickshaws in the city within next one month, as it has appeared to be the most risky mode of transportation. There has been a huge opposition and protests against the illegal motorization of paddle rickshaw in Tripura over past two years but neither left front nor BJP-IPFT government undertook any action to stop them in the street. There are reports of several serious accidents which caused permanent disability even death of the passengers. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation filed by a Lawyer divisional bench of High Court comprising of Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Arindam Lodh directed the Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation AMC, District Magistrate (West), SP (Traffic) and Transport authorities to ensure that henceforth, without proper regulation, such manually driven rickshaws operated with a battery/motor installed therein, shall not be allowed to be plied.

The United Democratic Party (UDP) of Meghalaya became the third party after Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Naga People's Front (NPF) to quit the Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA) over the Citizenship Amendment Bill. The decision was announced by party working President Paul Lyngdoh in Shillong.

The decision was taken after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah categorically said at a party rally in Assam that his party would revive the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill if it comes back to power in the country. His remarks provoked protests from various political parties and indigenous groups in the Northeast. United Democratic Party, Vice President, Allantry Franklin Dkhar said that the decision of the UDP to come out of the NEDA was taken on February 10^th after eleven regional political parties from across the North Eastern States met in Guwahati on January 29^th which unanimously resolved to oppose the Bill.

The Bodoland Territorial Area Districts celebrated the 17^th Bodoland Day to mark the signing of the Bodoland Accord.  The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) is a territorial council that was established in the Assam state of India according to the Memorandum of Settlement on 10 February 2003. Hagrama Mohilary was sworn in as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) on 7 December 2003. Since then, he is scaling the Bodoland towards new heights.

According to the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC), South Asia is the fastest-growing and second-largest region for human trafficking in the world after East Asia. Most human trafficking victims come from poor rural areas, lured with promises of good jobs, only to find themselves forced to work in fields or brick kilns, confined in homes as domestic workers or as commercial sex workers.

 Until recently, Nepal was the preferred transit point for traffickers to send women to the Gulf but the rescue of 179 Nepalis, 147 women and 32 men, from the north-eastern state of Manipur by the state police in February reveals Moreh, a bustling commercial Indian border town in Manipur, bordering Myanmar, as the emerging border point for human trafficking.

Dipmala Mazumdar of Dhubri town was awarded by All India Ophthalmological Society-Indian Journal of Ophthalmology as best research work for the year 2017-2018 in national level. The award was presented to her and co-researchers by Noble laureate Kailash Satyarthi on the occasion of 77th AIOC on 14th February 2019 in Indore. She belongs to a reputed family of Senpara area of Dhubri town, daughter of Jayanta Mazumdar and Ila Mazumdar.

Miss Mazumdar’s research was based on the prevalence of visual impairment which is on increasing all around the world and India is one of the countries with the highest rates of visual impairment.

The peaceful state of Arunachal Pradesh in the last week of February was in the news for all the wrong reasons if it had to be put on the perspective of how the indigenous people of the state felt and witnessed. The vexed issue of grant of Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) for some Non-APST (Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe) communities who have been settled in the state for a long period of time, majority of them having been rehabilitated, post the devastating earthquake of 1950 by the civil administration after consultations with the local indigenous people. These communities included the Ahoms, Adivasis, Deories, Morans, Kacharis, Mishings and Ex-Servicemen settlers and basically concentrated in the districts of Changlang and Lohit.
