 Nestling on the edge of the mighty river Brahmaputra flowing majestically along its entire stretch of land in its north with its charming rugged but greenish hills, of course, of moderate height, as those magnificent hills all around Pune, encircling almost its four sides, adding to its beauty, Guwahati was literally a small, somnolent, nondescript town till the late sixties.

            Naturally, its municipal area, no wonder, was too much small both in its width and length with Ulubari-Rehabari-Sarabbhati in the south, Chatribari-Atgaon-Kumarpara-Bharalumuk in the south-west of Guwahati, and areas in Fancy Bazar-Panbazar-Uzanbazar on the bank of the Brahmaputra to its north. To the east, its jurisdiction expanded only up to Chandmari from Gauhati club. And, interestingly enough, from Ulubari up to Ganeshguri, there was vast land measuring hundreds of thousands of bighas lying along both the flanks of the oldest G S road, being partly marshy and partly cultivable.

A seminar on "how to increase your present income Level or Build up Secured Career” under Central government organisation was held under the auspices of  Media Study and Research Centre (MSRC) of Dhubri at Town Hotel Conference Hall on May 20.

Nearly 100 educated housewives, girls and young boys participated in the seminar address by one of the most successful LICI Development Officer (senior business associate) of Dhubri under Bongaigaon Division, Debashish Sarkar. Sarkar in his hour long deliberation as the Chief Guest and key speaker stressed on the quality and hidden talent among the participants, which they hitherto not felt.

The stand-off between the Cardiology Department and the NEIGRIHMS Administration had severely affected the patients. The dispute in NEIGRIHMS between the Director, Dr. D.M Thapa and the Head of Department (HoD) of the Cardiology Department, Dr. Animesh Mishra started on April 30^th when medical items meant for the Cardiology Lab were seized by the Director as the same were purchased from a private vendor instead of Amrit Pharmacy as directed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Since then, the health care services in the Cardio department have been affected causing much inconvenience to the patients. The crisis continued in NEIGRIHMS between the doctors of the Cardiology Department and the Administration over non-supply of stents, pacemakers and equipment for carrying out surgeries in the Cardiology Department. The operation theatre of the Cardiology Department had remained non-functional, and almost six surgeries could not be conducted since equipment were not available for the doctors.

Applying Smart Solutions to the existing city-wide infrastructure besides, use of technology, information, and data to make infrastructure and services better. In Agartala, PAN city projects majorly focus on Integrated Intelligent Transport Management System, Smart Network, and Rapid Transit System (RTS) have been aimed to benefit and improve the quality of life of the citizens.

The right of the child, should not be abused in a society, also in the school campus and even at home. Yet there is not enough protection, even in schools, when children are burdened carrying school bags, which are heavier than the weight of the child. This is a sort of punishment, that the child has to suffer day in and day out. Coming back home, the child is also burdened by home work, and there is hardly time left for the child to spend in games that can refresh their minds. There is a saying that ‘All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy’.

Until recently, nobody knew Jahnabi Saikia. She was just a lady next door. Today, everybody knows Jahnabi is a member of the pro-talk-ULFA group who participated in blasting grenades Guwahati.

She acted with Pranamoy Rajguru, one of the leaders of the group. The grenade blasts left eight persons injured. Though nobody was killed, the grenade blasts at a shopping mall in Guwahati, it was catapulted in the media basket nationally as it brought to the fore the involvement of women in insurgent movement in Northeast. 

Jahnavi’s involvement in the grenade attack also rakes up the old issue of involvement of women in insurgency movement as a whole, be it ULFA or other armed groups in the Northeast, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) in Sri Lanka, Maoist movements in India and Nepal along the Red Corridor in India and Irish Republican Army.

Why women opt to go to conflict zones? Why they find their ways to jungles and ravines to join armed rebels? What sort of self-determination is it?

The first cabinet meeting of NPP party in Tura 

The first cabinet meeting of NPP party held in Tura of West Garo Hills district outside the state capital shillong 

The cabinet discussed the following agenda

1)      Amendment of Meghalaya Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules 2011. In conformity to the amendment of central rules to Right to Education, the cabinet has approved the amendment of Meghalaya Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education 2011.

2)      Seeking cabinet approval for approval of the Meghalaya Community Participation and Public Services Social Audit Services Rules 2017. The department of C & RD had sought approval for the draft rules to the Original Act and the cabinet has approved the proposed draft rules.

3)      The cabinet through the Programme Implementation Department decided to aggressively implement further systematic review of departments in every district. The cabinet also decided to have one minister in every district for one year to have systematic departmental review meetings with the district heads.

4)      Proposal on solid waste management by Urban Affairs department- Solid Waste Management Policy. The cabinet has approved the proposal which will come into force immediately.

5)      Proposal from Commerce & Industry department- Meghalaya Start up Policy 2018. The cabinet has approved the proposal to help young and talented entrepreneurs of the State.

6)      Meghalaya State Sports Policy 2018- The department presented the draft policy which the cabinet approved after fine tuning all aspects of the policy.

May 15, 2019 will go down in the history of Assam as one of the darkest days because ULFA(I) once again dared to raise its head after remaining in wilderness for a long period of time. The grenade blast on that ill fated day brought back the horror of violent insurgency that Assam witnessed in the early 1980s.

The May 15 blast has raised one question—is it the beginning of a new phase of insurgency in Assam? Well the answer to this question is yet to come. But the fact is ULFA (I) meticulously planned this ghastly operation and executed its plan leaving the Assam police force speechless.
