TWIPRALAND MOVEMENT An Instigating Politics of Innocent Mind
By-Biswendu Bhattacharjee
The demand of a separate state for tribal within the state of Tripura appears to be a dream for Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Twipra (IPFT) when BJP is looking to make inroads into power; CPI-M is trying to retain one of its last bastions. Innocent tribal minds were initially polluted by CPI-M during 90s with anti Bengalee propaganda in the hill to come in power but the communal hatred remain in their mind, which is now being exploited by a group of tribal leaders with abetment of leftists.
The ongoing separate state movement in Tripura is different from Gorkhaland movement of North Bengal. While entire hills of Bengal extended support to the movement, only a fraction of IPFT joined Twipraland movement and another faction of IPFT along with other tribal parties directly opposed it. However, coincide with Gorkhaland movement a section of youths other than IPFT faction spontaneously participated in the movement prompted by the situation of North Bengal hills.
The enthusiasm of Twipraland seekers reflected the historical incidences that Tripura witnessedduring late 40s. The tribals were electrified by left backed Janashikha Samiti (1945-48) for expansion of education in the hills. The movement turned into armed fight by the leftists but could not succeed because the foundation of the issue was not laid before it started. Afterwards the same plot was repeated among the tribal in 1950-55 during communist revolution in Tripura by which CPI-M had reached to the tribals.
