A local TV journalist is being detained for 12 months in Manipur by the state government invoking provisions of a preventive detention law, the National Security Act 1980, NSA, for his expletives filled criticism of the BJP led state government, the state’s Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the RSS posted on social media.

 

Considering, Kishorchandra Wangkhem’s similar misadventure where he heaped sharp anti-BJP and anti-RSS criticism in a non-journalistic fashion, landing him in jail under Section 500/500 (2) of the IPC, for the first time in August this year and the fact that he dared the state government to apprehend him again, his arrest was not surprising at all.

It is indeed a formidable task to encapsulate the life of such an illuminating personality in a few pages, who was not only an emblem of compassion and honesty, but also a saint in politics and a committed soldier of social service.

Rajendra Prasad was born at a small village Ziradei under the then Bengal Presidency (after the bifurcation of Bengal it came under Saran District of Bihar). The young Rajendra was first initiated into learning Persian, as was the tradition, by a scholarly Maulvi and later he also learnt Hindi and Arithmetic.

A cursory review of MSMEs in the Northeastern States

ASSAM: MSMEs is one of the vibrant sectors in Assam leading with more than 60 percent shares compared to other states while rest of the states together comes around 40 percent. More than 50 per cent of fixed investment, 65 per cent of output and 55 per cent of employment of entire Northeastern region is shared by Assam.

 

On the basis of the projected figure by the Ministry of MSMEs Government of India, number of MSMEs units in Assam are more than 2,40,000  having investment of Rs. 1500 crore with turnover production around 7000 crore and employing over 6 lacs.

A coin as we say has two sides, and there is a proverb on it as “two sides of same coin”. But Sankar Kumar Bose, a renowned numismatic of India puts it differently with connotation that coin has many sides - a powerful and solid sources of materials that speaks and tells us volume of information, which otherwise is not possible to get them by any other means.

Bose was born and brought up in Dhubri town and served in the State Bank of India in various capacities across Assam, and after retirement, he settled down in Calcutta with his most cherished love and hobby of studying deep on coinage.
