It needs no elaboration that Assam is the sensitive border State in northeast India It shares borders with Bangladesh very close to Assam, as Meghalaya, Tripura and West Bengal.
The major source of the disillusionment with the people of Assam is the largescale cross-border illegal infiltration from Bangladesh which is still going on, despite the attempts being devoted by the government towards stopping it via the ongoing process of updating the National Registration Certificate (NRC). Truly, it will act as a bulwark against the illegal migrants infiltration. However, the main purposes of NRC updating are - firstly, to identify those foreigners who have been illegally living in Assam to have their names in the NRC, and, secondly, to enter all names of genuine inhabitants of Assam in the NRC.
