Dr.Mukul Sangma Govt to come up with strong Legislative measure to deal with disaster
Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma has assured to come up with legislative measure to dispel the apprehension that the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is extending its authority beyond municipal areas while implementing the building byelaws.
While speaking to the press during the meeting with Traditional Head, He said that the Government is looking at legislative exercise to deal with these challenges. He added that the government will be looking at what can be the best format made available to the authorities not necessarily to MUDA but find out other authorities which are completely segregated from the authority which enforces certain laws within the municipality areas.
With this the authority will be vested with the responsibility of implementing various parameters required to ensure safety of the buildings while keeping in mind challenges associated with disaster and that Meghalaya is seismic prone state.
Under the banner of the Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Schools’ Association (MSSASA) thousands of SSA teachers hit the streets as a mark of protest against the failure of the Congress-led state government to release their pending dues. The teachers association have decided to serve an ultimatum till December 20 for the state government to comply with the demand.
The SSA teachers have threatened to file a writ petition before the Meghalaya High Court if the government besides seeking the immediate intervention of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar launched the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana and distributed Physical Aids and Assisted Living scheme at Nongpoh. With this Ri Bhoi is the first district in the Northeast where this fully-funded Central government scheme has been started.
The minister in his speech said that the Vayoshri Scheme aims at providing citizens above 60 years, belonging to BPL category and suffering from any of the age related disability/infirmity, viz. low vision, hearing impairment, loss of teeth and locomotors disability, with such assisted-living devices which can restore near normalcy in their bodily functions. The devices are being distributed in camp mode and a total of six such camps will be held across Meghalaya.
Speaking of the high standard of manufacturing of the devices, the minister said that the assistive devices are of highest quality and conform to the standards laid down by the Bureau of Indian Standards, wherever applicable. Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO), a PSU under the ministry, is manufacturing the devices and all this has been possible because of the Make in India initiative of the Prime Minister of India, he added. He said,“ The dream of the Prime Minister’s Make in India campaign has been fulfilled by our ministry as, after the formation of the present government, these wheelchairs, walking sticks and other devices which had erstwhile been manufactured in England are now being manufactured at ALIMCO in Kanpur”.
The minister concluded his speech with an assurance that his ministry will provide all kinds of assistance for the welfare of the people of the state. The meeting was also attended by Minister PHE etc Government of Meghalaya Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, Chairman & Managing Director of ALIMCO Shri. D.R. Sarin and senior officials of Government of Meghalaya.
“My inner desire is to protect and served the Indigenous Khasis”- Ardent Basaiawmoit
President of the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) Mr. Ardent Basaiawmoit said that he has no inner desire of becoming chief minister but desperately wants to protect the indigenous people of the state. The party rally at Malki ground saw thousands of people attending to listen firsthand on various issues and agenda of the party.
While giving his speech during the Public rally at Malki Football ground Mr. Ardent said “I am not desperate to win the elections but desperate to protect the indigenous people – the Khasis,”
Basaiawmoit warn the people against money power during the voting day. He stress on advising the people not to be lured by money and to participate in clean election to maintain the dignity of clean politics which is the core backbone of the Party. On the safeguard of the indigenous Khasi’s, Basaiawmoit said that Inner Line Permit (ILP) would not cause any trouble to outsiders. He remind the people about Mizoram where tourists’ is still high despite implementation of ILP. He added that ILP will protect the indigenous people.

Mr Sanbor Shullai inaugurated the Foundation for PWD Road
Mr Sanbor Shullai inaugurated the Foundation Stone laying ceremony for the construction of PWD Road from the residence of Smti Merdamon Nongkhlaw Bhutia Mandir via Lumparing Vidyapath School up to Lumparing Nepali L.P School which is sanctioned under PWD development Scheme 2017. The road will be constructed at the cost of Rs. 1, 08, 39,000 which was initiated by Shullai himself in collaboration with MCIC and the Dorbar Shnong of Upper Lumparing and Lower Lumparing and the Lumparing welfare Society.
In his speech Mr Sanbor Shullai greatly expressed his sincere thanks to all the Land Owners who have parted and handover their Land free of cost to the PWD Department and the Dorbar Shnong. He has also requested the members of the MCIC and members of all Dorbar Shnongs to monitor the project with cordial relationship and in collaboration with the officials of the Department as per specification laid down by the PWD Department.
