Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Jowai-Ratacherra road

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari dedicates the Jowai-Ratacherra section of National Highway 06 to the nation. The Union Minister dedicates this project today during the inaugural programme in Shillong which was attended by Officials from other North Eastern States which include Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan (IAS), Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Cabinet Minister Government of Meghalaya Prestone Tynsong, Kyrmen Shylla, Metbah Lyngdoh and West Jaintia Hills MLA Wailadmi Shylla and other officials from the North East Region.

The National Highway project was constructed at a cost of 683 Crore rupees and will reduce the travel time between Jowai and Ratacherra to 2 and a half hours from the 4 hours at present. The highway passes through the coal and cement producing belt and is a lifeline for the landlocked states of the North East. Improved connectivity will foster economic growth in the Barak Valley and surrounding areas open up employment opportunities and improve overall living conditions in the region.

The total length of the road is  102.255 which originates from National Highway 06 which is 5 km from Jowai town in West Jaintia Hills District. The road which has a past history of landslides and blockage is now in better conditions after the completion of this project. The newly developed highway will have 2 Toll Plazas, 17 bus shelters, 2 highway patrol and 2 ambulances, besides 2 wayside amenities

Addressing the function Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari said that the Central Government is giving highest priority for the overall development of the North Eastern States, adding that roads and connectivity are the means to prosperity and the key for the development of industries and agriculture sector. The Union Minister also said that bamboo can not only be used for production of paper products but it also has a huge potentiality to be used for bio-energy production and urged the State Government to make use of the raw material for creating employment opportunities in the State. He added that the centre is ready to assist the region in terms of funds for developing better roads. He reminds that in Meghalaya land acquisition is the main problems in setting up good roads, there for he urged the State Government (Meghalaya) to speed up with all the acquisition in order to start up new project in the State.

Speaking during the inaugural function Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that it is indeed a proud and historic moment and a boon for the State of Meghalaya and the North Eastern States. With the area being a highly economic activity zone, the completion of the road will go a long way in boosting the economy of the area in particular and the State as a whole the Chief Minister concluded.

Gauhati High Court issued notice to Anand Kumar to reply to the Public Interest Litigation filed by four IITs students of Guwahati IIT

A Division bench of Gauhati High Court the Chief Justice (Acting)  Justice Arup Kumar Goswami and Justice Ajit Borthakur issued notice to Anand Kumar who is known for “super 30” to replay the allegations made in the Public Interest Litigation filed by four IITs students of IIT Guwahati. 

Dr. Ashok Saraf, Senior Advocate appearing for the four IIT students submitted before the Court that  because of the wrong projection given by Anand Kumar  each year a large number of students from northeast and other parts of the Country  are approaching  him  with full faith  and hope that  Anand Kumar ,  who seems to be  an IIT Baba will help them in qualifying the IIT entrance exam. But after reaching there, Anand Kumar took their admission in his Coaching Institute namely Ramanujam School of Mathematics by charging  huge amount about Rs. 33,000/- per students in the name of teaching them.  According to Mr. Amit Goyal, Advocate for the petitioners, in the petition it is mentioned that most of the time, Anand Kumar roams to different places in India and outside India. He doesn’t devote sufficient time to the IIT aspirants who took admission in Ramanujam School of Mathematics.   Mr. Goyal added that on being enquired by the students it is revealed that after 2008, Anand Kumar is not running any so called “SUPER 30” classes. Whenever, IIT results announced, Anand Kumar appears before Media with some of the students of Ramanujam School of Mathematics and other students and claims that they are super 30 students and qualified in the IIT entrance exam. Dr. Ashok Saraf , Senior Advocate strongly submitted before the Court that the  false propaganda created by Anand Kumar is not only cheating the IIT aspirants and their Guardians  but also the common  people of this Country including the people of North East.

Accordingly, Mr. Amit Goyal, Advocate on Records for the petitioners, these wrong have been uploaded by WIKIPEDIA in its website in an unedited version and the same is also published by the National News paper Deccan Chronicle and is easily available in Social Media.

It is also alleged in the Petition that in this the year also i.e. 2018, Anand Kumar claimed that from his “super 30” out of 30 students 26 students cleared the IIT entrance exam but till he has not disclosed the names of 26 IIT entrance qualified students.

After hearing high court issued notice to Anand Kumar. Court also issued notice to Sri Abhiyanand, IPS (Former DGP, Bihar) who started “Super 30” with Anand Kumar in 2002. Matter shall now be taken up after 8(eight) weeks for further orders.

Measles-Rubella Campaign Held at Mawkyrwat

With a view to create awareness and sensitise the people on the importance of Measles-Rubella Vaccination which is targeted to cover 50,000 children in the age groups of 9 months to 15 years in South West Khasi Hills, the Office of the District Medical & Health Officer, South West Khasi Hills District has organised a Rally which kicks start from the Community Health Centre and culminated at the Multipurpose Hall, Deputy Commissioner's Office, Mawkyrwat.   

The future of the child depends on good health, said Miss I. Laloo, Deputy Commissioner South West Khasi Hills while seeking for support, cooperation and active participation of parents, caregivers, community leaders, religious leaders, NGOs, Teachers and frontline workers for the successful conduct of the Universal Vaccination Campaign which will kick starts on the 24th September, 2018 throughout the district. She called upon parents to come forward to avail this vaccination in order to ensure that their children are immunized and protected from this deadly virus which if left unvaccinated would lead to retarded growth and development and other disabilities.

‘Biskot and Sohiong Festival’ Shillong 2018

 

Blending this season’s diversity, the ‘Biskot and Sohiong Festival’ was held at the All Saints Cathedral Hall on the theme “Important Food Sources for Nutrition and Livelihood”.  The Festival was organized by the Directorate of Horticulture with the aim of promoting indigenous crops and also creates awareness on the value addition that can be added to the crops.

 

During the closing ceremony Meghalaya Minister of Agriculture, Shri. Banteidor Lyngdoh gave away prizes to the winners of the best stall to the office of the District Horticulture Office, Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills which bagged the first prize. The second prize went to the office of the District Horticulture Office, Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills and the third prize jointly went to the office of the District Horticulture Office, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills and office of the District Horticulture Office, Tura, West Garo Hills.

 

The winners of the best Entrepreneurs went to Kara Enterprise, Pohkseh, East Khasi Hills, Intergrated Vilage Co-operative Society Nongkasen, West Khasi Hills, Pyntngen Food Processing, Banium, East Khasi Hills, M/S Delicacies, Mawpram, Umpling East Khasi Hills, Tyllui Kawie SHG, Laitskeh, West Khasi Hills, Peter & Son, Food Processing, Dirrang, South West Khasi Hillls, Mel’s Food Processing Unit, Mawlangwir, South West Khasi Hills and Smti Wannon Tang, Madam Kynsew, West Jainita Hills. The Special Award of Recognition by the Jury went to the IHM, Shillong.

 

Earlier Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Shri. Y. Tsering inaugurated the Festival and inspected the stalls in the presence of the Additional Chief Secretary and Agriculture Production Commissioner, Shri. K.N. Kumar, Agriculture Secretary, Smti. M.N. Nampui, officers of the Directorate of Horticulture, farmers and entrepreneurs.

 

The main attractions of the day were workshops organized for farmers and the sale of a variety of Sohiong and Biskot inspired dishes, juices, jams, pickles etc.

Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign in Shillong

Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign is a massive National campaign to eradicate Measles and control of Rubella and Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) by 2020. To achieve this goal, Measles-Rubella (MR) campaign is being held for School children’s by the National Health Mission (NHM) Government of Meghalaya targeting all children from 9 months to 15 years of age. Measles is a highly infectious disease and causes a lot of childhood morbidity and mortality among children below 5 years of age. Rubella infection, although mild, can lead to fetal death, spontaneous abortion and a set of serious birth defects know as Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS) if an unimmunized woman is infected during early pregnancy, resulting in huge health burden to the family and the society. Both these diseases can be prevented by highly effective and safe Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine.

DHS (MCH&FW) cum Jt. MD Dr.TS Nongkhlaw Smt.I Majaw, Addl DC in the presence of DIO, Ln.Bns Didan, Lions Club International flagged off the rally in the morning at madan Iewrynghep where it end in U Tirot Sing Indoor Stadium Lower Lachumere via Laitumkhrah, Dhanketi and Barik Point. The department is targeting around 1.26 lakh children with the help from ASHA’s and Health Workers in respective places of the State. The schools who took part in the rally include St Edmunds, Pine Mount, Brook sides and Kiddies Corner School Shillong.
