The circumstances under which the partition of India ultimately became inevitable are quite interesting. In the general elections fought in 1937, the league did not secure any enviable position in the Muslim majority provinces. Only in Muslim minority provinces the league secured an impressive number of the Muslims seats, but that too only with the help of the Congress. Out of the total number of 487 Muslim seats all over India, the league secured only 110, 1.e. less than 25%.
