Manipur Governor’s residence attacked

Manipur Governor’s residence attacked

Militants lobbed grenades into the high-security compound of the Governor’s official residence in Imphal, the capital of insurgency plagued Manipur.

Nobody was hurt in the attack that took place in the evening and Governor Gurbachan Jagat was out of station as he had left for New Delhi in the morning.

The rebel outfit KCP-MC (Lanheiba) group has claimed responsibility for the attack and questions are being raised as to whether this is a retaliatory attack for the killing of its cadres in a separate incident.

This attack has come after the Chief Minister’s residence has been attacked on more than one occasion this year. It is indeed interesting that Chief Minister Ibobi of Manipur has asked for a National Guard security detail to protect him, rejecting personnel from his own state’s security force. Is the security force in Manipur so incompetent that the Chief Minister would rather opt for help from the National Guard than trust his own security detail?
