World War II Site Discovered in Arunachal

A historically significant site surrounded with World War II remnants has been discovered at Jairampur in Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh. The site is tucked in a non – descript village called Wintong under the administrative jurisdiction of Rima Putok circle, 20 km from Nangpong. The place was a monitoring and observatory camp of the Allied Forces. Air strikes were monitored from the place and accordingly counter attacks were planned by the forces. Morsels of war time and many empty vessels, tins and bottles of medicines and daily usable items were spotted in the vicinity. The villagers of Wintong also showed a tree which was utilised by the American Allied Forces for installation of the radio network. An area of around 500 meters was under the occupation of about 150 soldiers of the Allied Forces, explained an old man, who witnessed the operation himself.
